I was wondering if anyone has used Bakelite? I had someone give me a big chunk but was hoping someone could give a little feedback before I start sawing it up. I was thinking of using it for some rings as it has a unique brown color..

Thanks

Ive seen this

Ive seen Bakelite tips at the pro shop. Is this the same thing. Also these are the same tips they put on the Lucasi jump cues. This place in question was selling the tips for 25 or 30 dollars a piece.

Bakelite is/was a brand name for the plastic known as "phenolic"
what you likely have is an old piece of the natural<non-tinted> color
which gets darker and browner with age - when new it probably
looked like the joint collars on a SouthWest

Are you sure about the tips on Lucasi's...I have one and it looks just like regular old phenolic...

Bakelite was the very 1st plastic. A $10,000 prize was offered, if anyone could come up with a material that could be used for pool balls, other than Ivory. The fella that submitted the Bakelite ball, won the prize...JER
