Everest tip

Threw one of these on my cue a little while back. Hated it right off the bat. Thought it was too hard, and couldn't get a very good hit with it. I was struggling to hit good draw shots with it, and it put extra pressure on my game knowing that I couldn't do what I wanted to do with it. Been meaning to change it, but paycheck after paycheck I couldn't get the extra money to do so. Fast forward to the last week or so. I decided to sit down and scuff it down a few layers, and now it's playing great. I'm getting great action with it, it's hitting much softer, and now I love it. Seems like the first couple layers sucked, but once I got past them it played great. Anyone else ever experience this?

I believe I took 3 layers off my Everlast on my OB-1. It plays fine. I like a thin tips anyway. I cut my Triangles in half right from the start. Johnnyt

I took it down almost half of the tip, and it plays like a completely different tip. I've never experienced this before, not with the Moori's I used to play. Live and learn I guess.

after wearing out the everest on my OB1 I installed a Talisman Soft and it plays just about identicle to the Everest.

if you take off a layer or 2 from the Talisman (s) you can stiffen em up to feel like most other layered tips....

I have everest and been using them for years and yes 3/4 to 1/2 tip plays great and you can jump balls if you have a firm shaft. Hercules are nearly identical in play.

Those first few layers seem to absord more resin so that's probably what you've experienced. When the tip is first installed it should be shaped down to about 50% - 60% of it's original height. The other advantage of taking them down in size - to about 4 layers showing on the side plus the dome - is that the tip doesn't "give" on impact with side spin. A too tall tip will bend sideways with english and that's not a good thing.

The new Onyx by Tiger is expensive ($25) but it hold that medium feel better than any other tip I've run into and holds chalk really well.
