i have been reading the posts where someone criticized danny b for playing slow and i noticed that the majority of people on here were quick to come to danny's rescue. first of all, no one has said that danny is not a great player, his record speaks for itself. they were just criticizing his lethargic method of play. second, how come nobody comes to earl's rescue when EVERYBODY criticizes him for his antics. nobody will dispute earl's greatness but they all wanna call him an a**hole and many other things.
how come y'all are getting so upset over someone remarking on something danny does and not when something is said about earl?
Yes, it does suck a very big egg to read the bashing of some in the current lot of professional players. Knowing how difficult it is to keep up with the tournament trail because of expenses, the infighting between various entities which present hurdles and stop signs for no reason other than greed, and even the print media from time to time which uses adjectives ridiculing players' physical appearances instead of their excellent play, it sickens me.
Danny Basavich is only following his dreams, and he is FINALLY beginning to reap some of the benefit of the MANY years he has dedicated to the sport. Yes, he does play very slow at times, but I've also seen him play fast as well. So what! He gets the job done, and when he wins a great event, instead of recognizing his capabilities, some seem to only be able to look at anything and everything that is negative. I knew Danny was special the first time I met him, and I was right.
Here in the United States, we have professional pool players who have done nothing else in their life but play pool with the sole ambition to be the best that they can be because of a deep passion for the game/sport. Legendary players like Earl Strickland, a six-time world champion and five-time U.S. Open winner, just to rattle off a few titles he holds, are a favorite topic. I can tell you one thing for sure, there will NEVER, EVER be a pool player who can touch Earl Strickland's track record (IMO), but if Danny Basavich does get there, I will be right up front cheering him in.
You can take a post written about the incredible Efren Reyes and compare it with a demeaning post about another player, and the negative post will be 10 times bigger with more responses than a positive one. I guess when the pool public starts to rip you apart on the forums, you know you've made it big time.
Kid Delicious is now on top of his game, and I'm hoping he keeps it going. If you ever get the chance to meet him in person and share a few words, you, too, will recognize a champion in the making.
