i have been reading the posts where someone criticized danny b for playing slow and i noticed that the majority of people on here were quick to come to danny's rescue. first of all, no one has said that danny is not a great player, his record speaks for itself. they were just criticizing his lethargic method of play. second, how come nobody comes to earl's rescue when EVERYBODY criticizes him for his antics. nobody will dispute earl's greatness but they all wanna call him an a**hole and many other things.

how come y'all are getting so upset over someone remarking on something danny does and not when something is said about earl?

i am a fan of both.

i notice when someoen speaks the truth no one replies back, no one bashes Danny for his skill, it his play, i heard someone say he shot fast 2.3 mph :P

Same reason people don't like Randy Moss, all the skill in the world does not justify you thinking your a better person than someone else. You may have better skills at one perticular thing but your s**t still stinks. I know nothing about Dannys character maybe he's a jack off too but Earl is the king of that department.

Yes, it does suck a very big egg to read the bashing of some in the current lot of professional players. Knowing how difficult it is to keep up with the tournament trail because of expenses, the infighting between various entities which present hurdles and stop signs for no reason other than greed, and even the print media from time to time which uses adjectives ridiculing players' physical appearances instead of their excellent play, it sickens me.

Danny Basavich is only following his dreams, and he is FINALLY beginning to reap some of the benefit of the MANY years he has dedicated to the sport. Yes, he does play very slow at times, but I've also seen him play fast as well. So what! He gets the job done, and when he wins a great event, instead of recognizing his capabilities, some seem to only be able to look at anything and everything that is negative. I knew Danny was special the first time I met him, and I was right.

Here in the United States, we have professional pool players who have done nothing else in their life but play pool with the sole ambition to be the best that they can be because of a deep passion for the game/sport. Legendary players like Earl Strickland, a six-time world champion and five-time U.S. Open winner, just to rattle off a few titles he holds, are a favorite topic. I can tell you one thing for sure, there will NEVER, EVER be a pool player who can touch Earl Strickland's track record (IMO), but if Danny Basavich does get there, I will be right up front cheering him in.

You can take a post written about the incredible Efren Reyes and compare it with a demeaning post about another player, and the negative post will be 10 times bigger with more responses than a positive one. I guess when the pool public starts to rip you apart on the forums, you know you've made it big time.

Kid Delicious is now on top of his game, and I'm hoping he keeps it going. If you ever get the chance to meet him in person and share a few words, you, too, will recognize a champion in the making.

There's really no comparison. Earl has a history of incidents in which he is openly abusive and blatantly disrespectful of his fellow competitors, the fans, and even tournament officials. Nobody comes to his recscue because such beavior is absolutely indefensible. Those who don't find such behavior to be beneath the game's dignity are few and far between.

All I can say is that Danny shot fast and loose in Providence this weekend and was unstoppable. As far as whether or not he is nice guy. Yes he is...Danny and arrogance don't even belong in the same thread, nevermind the same sentence.
Tony Robles still gets my vote as the nicest, most approachable player I have ever met but Danny is right there with him.

I watched Earl in his prime. He was the best player I have ever seen play still to this day. His personality is a bit harsh but I like to watch him play still today. I've seen him totally abuse (verbally) Tourney Directors. But most of the time he is right. As for Danny B's slow play. I think he did that to get into the opponents head.

jam,

are you saying that danny can change his speed of play as he pleases? i think that is what some people were ripping him about. they say that he intentionally "nits" his opponent by playing slow just to aggravate them and give him an unfair advantage. this is equitable to a pitcher throwing spitballs or a batter corking his bat (that was hard to say because i am a cubs fan but it is the truth--sorry sammy, good luck in baltimore!).

some have argued that that was his natural playing style which would be one thing but you have just put on the table the possibility of him doing it on purpose. if that is the case then maybe these people do have a legitimate reason to criticize him because that would constitute an "unethical" act.

There are a handful of top pro players who play slow as molasses. Some of these are players that I really respect a great deal, but it is still mind numbing to watch them play.

I think I have mentioned this before, but I actually dozed off in the middle of a match at the Mosconi Cup 2 years ago because the play was so slow.
