I always leave them down, but when playing the ghost these past two times I've been breaking soft and rarely made a ball on the six ball rack. You get less clusters by soft breaking from my experience.

Don't you realize this is not the game to play for getting better? Smshing balls to hell and back waiting for a layout that falls within your runout capabilities, and then running out is like spinning a roulette wheel, landing on 7 three times in a row and thinking you're getting better at spinning the wheel.

9 ball is a quick gamblers game. Straight pool will teach you feel, touch, thought process, problem solving, concentration, .... and on and on. No wonder here why you don't see improvement.

Try half table pattern play. Start by throwing 3 balls on one half of the table. Start with ball in hand and play in rotation. Cue ball can not leave that half of table. But object balls can be played in any pocket. Also try to use only center cue ball hit. Center, center high, and center low. Once you can run out 3 balls easily then go to 4, then 5, then 6. When you can run the 6 balls on half table 8 of 10 times, move to full table pattern play and start back at 3 or 4 balls. It is also a good idea to do straight in shot stroke drills. Good luck.......

That is a great drill. I have some of my students playing 8 - ball on half table .. better yet is NO balls can leave that half of the table. The straight shot drill is also good. It is one of the hardest shots in the game. Distance between CB and OB should be at least 3' then progressively longer. The progressive approach to all drills will really help.

Gave it a try today and only got one game in a race to 10....sigh :(. I was playing particularly bad today it felt like, just not able to make easy shots I know I should be able to make. Still, on my best days I bet 3 games would be about my best performance right now, So yeah...banger all the way...but working on it and hoping to improve.

Going to keep trying and see how I do on a day when I'm feeling better about my shot making.
 
Less than 2 months ago I was getting skunked by the 4 ball ghost. I now beat it in a race to 10 with only losing 2-3 games. I can now also beat the 5 ball ghost in a tight race and lose a tight one against the 6.

I think I play the ghost differently than some. When I play I rack all 9, then put down 1 through 4 or whatever. If I pocket a ball like say the 7, then I'm getting juice from the break. If I scratch on the break, that's a win for the ghost and I rack again. I only take BIH after the break if I don't have a clear shot.

My breaks are now a helluva lot better too.

I have seen a player down 120 tries at that game getting 2:1 on the money. The other guy was calling the order though.

I thought I could beat Casper last night, but he fooled me. I admit defeat with my head held high. It is hard beating the ghost on a table with 3.75" pockets though.:thumbup:

I thought about putting a video up, but it wouldn't be worth watching. I guess I could sooner or later just so everyone could get a good laugh. We will get there one day....hopefully one day soon.

How long did it take you to get to the hill when you started playing the 6 ball ghost? I'm not asking for a spot. I don't like taking spots.

I've got an update.......

Tonight I had a run in with the ghost again. He was a little cocky, but rightfully so. I played him a tough set and he came out the winner, BUT he only won 10-8. I played on a Valley Bar Box this time. I've got a feeling I'll beat him next week or this weekend. I'm gonna give him 2 on the wire and put a little money on the light and see if it rattles him a little bit. Wish me luck.
