EXCELLENT way to recondition rough linen wrap.

This may seem like a no brainer to some, but I'm sure most people would be afraid to try this without knowing the outcome first. I have a linen wrapped Pechauer, but I've never been a fan of the slickness of linen on a new cue. So I took an SOS pad to it a couple years ago and roughed it up a bit. I scuffed it too much and it became fairly frayed and felt overly rough. I just forgot about it and shot with it anyway instead of having it rewrapped. Well, last week I decided to do something about it so I took 1000 grit paper and squeezed the cue at the top of the wrap, hand-spinning it in the sandpaper and slowly moving down the wrap. The result? It feels great and is just slightly less slick than it was new, just how I like it. No issues after a week of play. Just figured I should post this simple method in case anyone out there doesn't like the rough feel of their old linen wrap but hasn't jumped on the idea of taking sandpaper to linen.

You could also use wax paper.

Wax paper feels great immediately afterward, but is a magnet for dirt... which is a major problem for a bar player (I play for an APA team so 50% of my playing is done on filthy-wool-blanket-cloth covered tables). Also, the wax gets a little sticky on a hot day with a sweaty palm. But wax will work well with clean, dry hands and a clean table/case.

The slickness of a linen wrap makes me grip too tight. I'd like to know how to make the wrap rougher without ruining it?

Simple way really

Cuemakers have linen that is not pressed, and rewrapping with one of those will leave a 'rougher' finish to it.

Sanding may cause your linen to get fuzzy later. If you don't like it so smooth, get it rewrapped and tell your repairman not to go crazy pressing it.

Angle grinder. Be careful not to hit the finish.

Why are you putting your grip hand on dirty tables?. Should just be your bridge hand on the cloth last I checked.

Left handed shots. And touching balls that never get cleaned. Racking. Not washing hands before play... whatever the reason, it's irrelevant. If you don't mind wax, use wax paper. But I'd rather just not bother because the sandpaper restored it to like new and damp rag will clean it just fine.

This was not intended to be an anti wax paper thread lol... just letting people who may be unaware know that high grit sandpaper won't hurt the linen and smoothes it out really nicely. Merely another method of doing things. There are plenty of threads on the pros and cons of waxing your wrap and everything else there is to know about maintenance/repair.

Thanks - thats what I like about AZ among other things - folks that share ideas and solutions that worked for them so I for one don't have to reinvent the wheel.
