Exciting in that both players finished with 40 points in 11 innings and it went to a break shot tie breaker. One player had a 2 from the break and the other a 5.
Evidently the format has changed. In the past the 48 players were divided into groups of 3 and played a round robin and only the top player advanced. Now it seems that only one player is eliminated in the new format and 32 go on to the single elimination (40 points, equal innings, break shot tiebreaker).
It is a good thing for Blomdahl. In his group of 3 he finished second but had the highest average (2+). He went on to the round of 32 where he beat Cenet in their tiebraker (!) with a run of 8 from the break then in the round of 16 he beat Eddy Merckx with a run of 8 in their tiebreaker! There were two other ties in those 8 matches.
In the quarterfinal, Blomdahl squished Dion 40-19 in 17 innings. He is now in the semis against Sidhom. Sidhom had a tiebreaker against Forthomme as both were out in 21 innings.
