I apologize in that this is not a 'talk to a mechanic' post in the truest sense but it may provide some guidance to those getting work done.
I began with a 9' AMF Grand Prix 1" slate table purchased locally off craigslist (what I believe is circa 1970s). I splurged for top-notch materials, and luckily found someone I have confirmed to be a top-top-top-notch mechanic.
Thank you to Josh and Don of Absolute Billiard Service, and thank you to fellow forum members who provided tons of knowledge and guided me to Josh. After a long day of work, including stellar subrail extensions with diamond angles, when all was said and done, Josh wanted my table to play perfectly as badly, or perhaps even more, than I wanted my table to play perfectly. I cannot say enough about his expertise, attitude, and the pride he takes in his work.
Tour blue simonis 860 HR, artemis k66 cushions, gold crown drop pockets to replace unwanted ball return, like-new brunswick centennials, 12' x 18' commercial carpet, homemade light, and a dream 15 years in the making realized. Some before and after pics...
And rest assured new cloth owners, after about 15-20 hours of play on the new simonis, my balls are not sliding anymore and english is properly responding.
