Exhibition in Rhode Island

Grady

Pro Player
I'll be doing an exhibition at Chalk's Billiards in Warwick, Rhode Island on the 22nd of this month. If you are in the area, come on out. I look forward to seeing you.

Oh, wish I could be there for that, Grady! I sure have enjoyed your commentary on the Accu-Stats videos that I own and would love to see your exhibition.

I am still waiting for you to put the hammer down on these young pups in the Legends of One Pocket tournament and win the title for yourself.

I attended back in 1990 or 1991 when Hopkins won and Steve Cook took second. I sure enjoyed watching Steve play and would take lessons from him any day. He looks like a mild mannered accountant, but will knock your ass out on a pool table!

Not anymore! Steve, sadly, died within the last year or so...:(

Grady,

What time does it start?

What! I had not heard that... I have seen his cue up for sale, and I guess I should have known... I am greatly saddened by that news. He was quite an underrated player.

I searched the forum and found articles stating that he died on 10-21-2003. I am stunned because I had this dream that I would some day get one pocket lessons from him. I really liked his style of play in the Legends of One Pocket that I attended. He was a methodical machine.

I am just sad for this. 56 is a young age to go. Damn!

Quite a guy.
He isn't unerrated now, he will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
You are so right, 56 is far too early.

Nooooo! That is the day I'm leaving town for vacation. I would be there for sure otherwise.

What's the format of the exhibition? Challenge matches (1P, 14.1)? Demo 1P shots? Trick shots?

I'm really bummed that I have to miss this.

Bill: I did win one of my Legends tournaments...in Olathe, Kansas in 95 or 96. That event will always hold a special place in my memory because I won the tournament and about an extra $40,000 gambling. My two toughest matches were against Shannon Daulton and Jose Parica.

The exhibition starts about 6 pm, I think. As I said, it's probably best to call the room for information.

I have a new power point presentation that I call "The History of Pool". It features about 80 pictures, going back four or five generations of our greatest players. This takes about 45 minutes. Then I'm up for challenge matches, or doing a clinic which has proven to be very popular. I'm up for questions and autograph signing and even pose for photos if anybody wants to risk their camera.

Grady:

Oh, I do recall your victory now! Sure wish I could see that presentation! A clinic on your one-pocket 'power' shots where you artfully relocate a couple of balls to your pocket would be a dream come true for me. I still have some of those articles around and re-read them to remember how to do it.

Would love the chance to sit and listen to a bunch of your stories too....

Grady:

During your commentary of Steve Cook's match with Hopkins in the LOOP tourney (1990), you mention that Steve had some sort of argument or ruling that went against him during a tournament in Vegas back in the 1970's and that incident made him abandon tournament play for a time. Can you fill me in on the details of that incident? Plus, I know that Incardona went on the road with Steve, but did you travel with them as well?

Thanks, Grady!

What happened to Steve didn't occur in Vegas. He got stiffed after winning a major tournament in Birmingham, Alabama. The promoter ran off with all the money including the gate. This incident did sour Steve on tournaments for awhile.
I never traveled with Cardone and Cook.

Thanks Grady! Hope to meet you at a tourney within the next year or two, when I can get back to The States.

Did anyone attend this exhibition? Can you give some particulars?

Grady, how was it from your perspective?

Looking forward to it Grady.

As I saw it, things could not have gone better. Chalks is a nice room and Jeff, the owner, a gracious host. It was well attended and everybody was enthusastic and polite. The evening went very quickly. Before I knew it, the night was over and I hated to leave. Thanks to my friend, Gian, for setting everything up. I look forward to returning at my earliest opportunity.
Joe Tucker and Mike Webb were nice enough to come out. It's always good to see them.
