Hi Guys,

Check out these amboyna burls that we will be importing direct from Cambodia. We have these square in 15", 18", 21" and 24" with the size 1.45 plus by 1.45 plus. Our shop in cambodia can custom cut these square to any dimension but we need to turn these into dowel form in order to ship them out to North America. We will have full splice and short splice blanks available (4,6,8 points) that will be custom made for us. Yeah...we are pretty sure they are amboyna burl...my cousin who manages our shop in Cambodia has been working with these woods for years. We have exported these woods worldwide through my uncle furniture business. I've look at "afzelia" burl wood and this is not it. afzelia burl are softer and darker in color. The pics of these raw wood have not been wax yet..but once waxed you will see the golden orange color with amazing figures. I will have one of the first full splice blanks made with cored burls. We are currently testing the stability of full splice with the cored amboyna burl. If the stable..then they will be in stock in the fall on our site www.customcuesandtips.com.

All of the 7 pieces shown in the pics are just sold pending payment!! We will have pics of the 24 inches up shortly today. We have 9 pieces in square and 2 dowels to show how most of these will be once they are in our stock.

Hi Guys,

Here are my 24" plus Amboyna Burl Square!!! Each piece are 1.45 x 1.45 plus by 24" long...we have one sample in Dowel form as well...I believe in 1.4" in diameter. These are only air dried and we haven't test the moisture content in them. We have about 200 of these in our inventory, we don't really know how to price these but a similar piece from other sources are about $200.00 plus each. Please sent in your offer request and let us know which piece you are interested.

Long Splice Amboyna Burl Issue

Anybody that would make a full splice cue with Amboyna Burl is making a huge mistake. The wood is too soft and the prongs will be so weak that they cannot possibly make a strong support system for the forearm. Coring the Amboyna will not help with the prong problem.

I really have to wonder if Duc and his advisers know wood.
I'm sorry from nasty runouts in their rosewood handles to coring burlwood full-splice???
 
I'd say you have afzelia...amboynia is very red in color and afzelia has that pinkish color like what you have...

Color ranges from blood red to golden brown, I have both.

Afzelia and amboyna are those funny woods that you have to mark so you know what they are....:p

Also a good idea to keep them separated so you don't mix match the cue.:eek:
