I wanted to some input for the following questions:

1.) What exotic leathers have you worked with and of those leathers which did you like or did not like?

2.) What is the best exoctic leather to work with?

3.) Which leathers are best for playability compared to linen wraps?

4.) Where are the best places to get pre-cut leather and exotic leather wraps?

Thanks for all the help in advance. Also, if some of these questions are like industry secrets, I can understand if they are all not answered.:)

I only use cow hide, pig skin & lizard wraps. On my personal Qs, I have one with no wrap & one that I put a leather wrap on. The leather one is smooth & shinny, but has an alligator print, pressed into it. Even though they are both shinny the Gator wrap has more grip to it. Before the Gator wrap I had a lizard wrap, that had lots of grain & had even more grip to it. A leather wrap should last as long as the Q, unless it is snake skin. They are temprimental & have to be oiled or they fall appart. A leather wrap is only as good as the glueing job, under it. If it's going to lift up, it will be where the 2 halves meet. Maintenance on a all other leather wraps is just wipeing it clean, with a damp rag. I follow that with a little Pledge over the whole butt. I buy my leather from Atlas & Tiger. Hope this helps...JER P.S. by the way there is no such thing as "pre cut", they all have to be cut to fit the Q you are working on.

As far as "exotics" I'll assume you mean genuine leathers (ostrich, lizards, stingrays, snakes and such). With out being properly tanned, "real" exotic skins are pretty much useless and will not last. They might look nice and be good as showpieces, however they should not be played with. The most durable, workable, reliable and best looking leathers for cue wraps are Pig leathers and Cowhide. For example, all of our embossed leather (Lizards, Crocs, Elephants, etc...) are actually cowhide. Everything else is Pig Leather (the best to work with by far!).

Pig leather is the best to work with for sure!

Stack Leather Wraps are far superior to linen or standard leather wraps as far as playability. They tend to have a little tackiness as they warm from use to prevent slipstrokes and great feel is still transfered to your hand.

Tiger Products is the billiards industry leader for leather. You can also get leather from Atlas, Chris Hightower, Prather, Brianna and a few others.

Best wraps

I have a cue that was irish linen - which I got a local cuemaker to install a python skin wrap. Deal was I had to locate the snake skin and furnish it to them. Cuemaker installed the wrap and refinished the butt of cue for the just their normal refinish cost. In the end, the wrap is under clear coat and is just like a finished wooden handle. It looks great and should stay that way forever under the clear coat. :D
