Expaining the "measle ball".

Oh god will you lot just shut up and GET A GRIP! what do you want hm matches that last sixty mins with break and run out after break and run out or would you rather see players under pressure from time to time after a sloppy safety shot if so stop whingeing and just enjoy the game for what it is a GAME.

I want to see them sweatin' it the whole way! I say all CBs should have a flat spot on them too, just to keep it exciting.

Advise quality of object balls.

My main complaint is with the response of the cue ball. Being oversize it plays just like you'd expect: with less finesse. Here at the Open I've witnessed some of the worst safety play I've ever seen from players of this caliber, and the overall quality of pool has suffered as a result. The measle ball plows through angles, runs a couple of diamonds long, and is tediously slow to respond to the applied english, all of which is amplified by the slick, new cloth.
Those are the reasons they were removed from the local hall I frequent.
It makes the game even harder.
They should just chuck those balls.

Hey Joey,
Please advise quality of object balls, that you are comparing, & saying the "measle ball is larger than.
What I am trying to say here is "compare apples to apples,
not apples to oranges. BE SPECFIC. what was the dia. of the
cue ball that was removed from your local pool room.
"have a nice day"

I know I've heard people give different experiences with comparing the measle ball to other balls, but I use it at home with a set of Centennials and I believe the cue ball to be the same size as the object balls. Not like I did a scientific test or anything to measure diameter, but I took the cue ball, placed it on the rail in the middle of two object balls, then I put my cue over the top of all three. If the cue ball is bigger, you'll be able to tell because your cue won't touch the top of all three balls at once.

I've seen your nine ball and one pocket ( I still think you should of played another five hours in San Diego when you won the one pocket event a couple years ago- who cares if it was already past midnight?) but I haven't seen your 14.1. Someone said you had a license plate with "125 n out" on it or something but I don't know if they were joking.

You plan on entering the 14.1 event at the DCC?[/QUOTE]

I believe Dan ran 125 and out in Tucson or Phoenix at the state 14.1 tournament, Dan can probablly clarify, by the way dan, been to pockets in Tucson lately? I moved to stamford, ct, hope all is well.

my finesse and safety game is better with the t.v. balls i think cause they are heavier and i can control the cueball better. i am more comfortable rolling these balls then centenials with the blue circle cueball. the cueball deflects off the object ball less making it easier to control imo.

I have won 9ball tournaments in every poolhall that i played in except this one that has the measly cue ball. Other players i talked to about this suggested it might be the cloth or the tight pockets but those factors don't bother me. It has to be the cue ball 'cos i noticed many times it doesn't get off the rail when i use english the same way as other balls. I don't miss the shots i just get screwed up on shape. It could be just me but i thought this is an interesting topic and relates to my situation.

My $0.02.

no more......

i wish you guys hadnt brought this up.

It just cost me a shit load to import some TV balls over to Australia, and now you guys arnt too happy with them. Im yet to use them!

Can we start with some positive things about them?

I think the measle cueball is a good thing for TV and for practising, as you can see the full effects of english and spin that you are getting, or not, on the ball...

As far as the difference in weight, I think I'll go to Seyberts and ask if I can weigh the different cueballs they have...

I'm curious if there is any real weight difference....

The balls are made to spec.Within certain parimeters.just think how much of a difference when they were playing with ivory balls. It is not the balls that make the shot but the player who adjusts to what he is playing with.

there is a thread around here not nto long ago that had weights and stuff from a bunch of different cueballs.

Along the lines of my opinion of the measle ball, I love it. I bought one off ebay before they were offered seperate. I think it plays great, I havnt noticed the slight size difference though, but playing position was no different for me than a standard all white ball. But im not pro either for that matter. I havnt shot with the rest of the set, just the measle ball.

WOW, I agree with you, but definately not the way you said it.

However, you say it is just a GAME. That is not true in all cases. to some it is just a game, to others it is their way of life, or their job. Mr. Wallace has the right to complain about the measle ball whether we want to hear it or not. Frankly I think it is all just getting used to the ball which should only take a rack or 2, however you could have worded your response a little better I think.
