Hello all,

I'm from Canada and I prepare to purchase a 1605$ cue online with J&J america dealer. I'm a little be worried about the fact that it's a big amount and of course they not guarantee the lost package in transport. I figure to go with USPS EMS (express post service). They told me assurance refund is 500$ and track number is include. Also they said that I can take the entire assurance amount of the cue but it cost more and the delay can be more because the custom guys can have some question about the expensive amount of a piece of wood like that ;).

So what do you think and if you can share me your experiences I will appreciate so much.

Also I think J&J cues america are a serious company but... It's my first experience with this dealer so... Feedback please if you have.

Take care to your stroke ;)

You do not need to worry when dealing with J&J at all, not one bit.

Postal shipping is always an issue, I would suggest using UPS instead,
not sure what services they offer to Canada but they offer insurance
for thousands of dollars when shipping from the US to Europe (me).

gr. Dave

If you get it from J&j directly i wouldn't worry. a dealer though i'd think twice about it

I bought many things from J&J and never had an issue.

granted, I never spent over $500 at one shot.

Never heard a bad word about J&J, but I would definately use UPS and have them add the extra insurance.

You might be better off if you have a trusted friend in the USA to purchase it for you and then send it to you as a gift.
Just say'n

Mr. Frisky!

I just shipped a cue to Canada from the U.S. via USPS and it took 3 weeks for Canadian customs to process the cue?? I don't know how much faster it would be with UPS but I'd not use USPS for shipping to Canada again. I used priority and shipped via Paypal's shipping service via USPS and it would not let me insure the cue?? YMMV

J&J is definitely reputable, it's the delivery that I'd worry about. Nothing to do with J&J..

If you use UPS be prepared for all sorts of problems and all sorts of fees.

I always get stuff from the States mailed by United States Postal Service.
They sell insurance, although only one vendor I have used insisted on insuring.

Never had anything go missing in the mail and never had anything damaged.

Yes UPS can be really expansive for us canadian du to brokage fees etc.

THANKS FOR YOUR POINT OF VIEW, i APPRECIATE GUYS.

The Seller suggest me to claim at lower price. Claim in higher price, might have trouble or delay in the custom. also they want to know why the cue so expensive. He can insurance more value, but he do not recommend because I might need to pay much more import duty. But it's up to me.

What do you think if it was your cue ???

Thanks

I surprise that the Seller would suggest to claim at lower price. I think most buyers would like to ask the seller to claim at lower price since the taxes are paid by buyers.

I think it is a good idea if the seller is willing to claim at lover price, but if claming as "a gift" would be the ideal choice!

PS. I help a friend to order a cue from US to Canada which the price of the cue is $US363 included shipping fees (USPS), it costs about $CAN22 for the import tax.

NO, NO, NO!

Never, EVER, take out less Insurance than the item is worth!!
The shipper has already told you, for reasons I can't imagine, that they ARE NOT responsible if the package (cue) is lost (or damaged?) en route.

Actually, they are. Until it reaches the destination, the cue is their responsibility. Otherwise, a shipper could ship an empty box and claim it happened in transit, and was not their fault.

Items/boxes/packages/cues - will be damaged/lost/broken approx 1.5% of the time. Industry standard number.

So if your cue is lost/damaged and you only have $500 Insurance, you LOST $1100.00!!! You would have absolutely NO recourse or anyway to get your money back. You are only entitled to the Insured amount.

Don't forget - YOU are not buying Insurance, the shipper is. Only a shipper can buy insurance, though they can relay the cost to you.

Finally, "Insured Amount" has nothing to do with Customs. The Insurance is between the shipper and the carrier (USPS, UPS, etc).

If there's a tariff or import tax, it would be based on Claimed Value. But that is different from Insured amount. Granted, if claimed value is less than insured amount, they will get suspicious - but they're still different.

So as the Importer (you), I HIGHLY recommend that you insure for FULL VALUE, and pay the associated tariff if applicable.

(The F in NAFTA doesn't really stand for "Free", dontchaknow?)

That is what I have always thought.
However, there ate a LOT of eBay sellers that feel once they give the package to the shipper their responsibility ends.
They feel you are responsible for any insurance costs.
Like I said I dont feel that way and like you, would be responsible for the item until it was in the buyers hands ... but there are many that do not feel that way.
Be sure to ask about that before you buy.

Never had a bad experience getting anything from the USA. Just gets held up in Customs for a long time. Be prepared to pay GST and a customs handling fee on the cue when UPS delivers it. UPS also charges you a brokerage fee on top of everything else you will pay.

Finaly I'll choose the total amount insurance!

Thanks to All,

It's good to have neutral opinion from guys who have the same passion and care for there equipment.

After reflexion I will take for 1500$ of insurance for the cue. I dont want to feel insecure for delay I have to wait for my cue. When we doing by the book honestly, if the problem arrive we are cover. I decide to pay more for no stress.

Thanks everybody to help me to make raisonable decision

Not since April (or so). eBay Sellers can no longer charge buyers for Insurance for this exact reason. Too many scams, sellers charging 15 bux to insure a $100 item, charging for insurance but not taking it, etc.

And now, finally, the seller is responsible for the item until it reaches the buyer.

Sellers used to claim that they were "filing a claim on your (buyers) behalf", and that it's between the buyer and the carrier. But again, only the seller/shipper can take out insurance; it's a contract between the shipper and carrier, not the buyer.

Also, big surprise, if shipping Int'l with USPS and you buy Insurance, the fine print states that the USPS is not responsible for the package once it leaves the country!

You have to prove (good luck) that the damage happened before the package arrived at the Italia Postal Mondo location. (Sorry, bad experience)
