Explaining who Efren is to my wife

I was just watching a youtube video of Efren at Hardtimes Bellflower, and my wife asked who that guy was... I found myself at a loss for words in how to explain.

She knows SVB is top dog, so she looked at me crazy when I said Efren was the best. So I thought of an interesting analogy that she could understand.

Efren is the Michael Jordan of pool, and Shane is Lebron.

While I wanted to pat myself on the back for this, I was instantly saddened when I realized that Mosconi is really Jordan... So who is Efren? Lol

I had same reaction when I first saw Efren at late 1990s W9B
But sorry SVB is no Lebron - he is not in conversation of greatest if you stacked up many other greats
I would paraphrase Pele (when asked whether Messi is greatest ) who quipped that he will have conversation of whether Messi is greatest when Messi has won World Cup . And no I am not saying SVB is Messi- not even close they are miles apart

Earl is more Johnny Mac. It is injustice to say Efren is Borg especially since Efren is all rounded while Borg isn't . Efren is maybe Laver?
 
Nobody plays basketball better than Larry bird. all around solid at all skills! as for pool NICK VARNER!
 
I like the Magic Johnson analogy. Efren and MJ are worlds apart in attitude. MJ would never say he got lucky and beating him would earn you a lifetime of hatred lol

Efren is Muhammad Ali or Babe Ruth.
SVB is Mike Tyson or Barry Bonds. But without the raping and ear-biting and doping.

Not sure I agree. Mike Tyson was in many ways as good or better than Ali but it's very hard to compare the two since they had such different styles. The sheer power of Tyson surpassed Ali but Ali was more graceful and better in many other technical aspects.

I'm not sure I would compare Efren to anyone in any other sport. The only other pool player to ever come close to him in terms of skill, accomplishments, and staying power was Mosconi and even he could likely learn a thing or two from the Magician.
