Exploiting the corner ball!

Recently I did a little demo on reading the racks and was left with a perfectly tapped in rack, Thanks Mike. So rather than let it go to waste I decided to do some 9 ball break-n-run practice.

Turned out to be fun but it?s really just a fantasy world getting these racks over & over!
If there?s anyone out there that still thinks the rack doesn?t matter, please, please watch. And then please tell me you still don?t think it matters so I know I?m back to reality.

This one I made the corner ball super dead from my left so I could practice bringing the 1ball straight back towards the corner pocket.
Exploiting a dead corner ball with a 6 pack

This one I break all 20 times from my right adjusting a little here & there.
Break-n-Run practice 10 out of 20 with dead corner ball.

I tried to put them both on google video but man did I get tortured. So the 6 pack is there but the 10 for 20 is a youtube playlist.

At the beginning of that second rack I caught you red-handed, "juicing up" the cue ball by putting body oils on the cue ball to control that cue ball. You're no better than that John Schmidt guy. I'm going to try some of that. :D

Nice 6 pack but I really respect that cue ball control, Joe Tucker.

Thanks for the evidence that you are not only a good pool instructor but a top notch player as well.

Hey man, those were Tom Cruise run out's. ;) Just joking. Nice breaks and runs. You looked really composed. Couple of questions for you.
1) What is that piece of paper on the rail for?
2) Why are you using the 10-ball?
3) What caused you to miss on that last one ball and what would you have done differently given a second chance?

the 6-pack reminds me of Donnie Mills.

Although I do understand the point of this thread, yes the rack DOES make a difference, I think it's a little bit of an understatement to say the least. This is a video of a very well managed 6-pack. The fact that Mr. Tucker recognizes a dead ball using a relatively soft break is the undercard. If anything, this should serve as an example as to why it's important to pay attention to how the table is breaking. Finding a dead-ball on the break is not incredibly unusual. Once recognized, there's no telling when the run might end.

My point, more than anything is, this is a video of very fine play. Forget the fact that the corner ball is dead and watch the runs. There are several shots that a lot of players here can learn something from.

Note to self: When playing Joe Tucker, copy his break or break at mach 5with the hopes that he can't copy mine.

Thanks for all replies. Stuff like this takes the sting out of not being out there competing on a regular basis and I?m glad to have a place like this to share them.

You caught me Joey, thought I did that off camera.

Big C they are Tom Cruise outs but it is more of a concentration exercise than a shot making one.
The paper on the rail is taped there, its banking lanes by the numbers (don?t ask).
In the 10 out of 20 video I explain that I use the 10 ball because my 9 ball and many others often become smaller than the other balls in the rack and when that happens so do spaces that effect the rack.
I missed the 1 because it was tight by the 7 and I haven?t practice being jacked up in quite some time and when I do I know the jacked up picture looks a little different.
Only thing different would be to be more prepared or control cue ball better on the break but I'll have to go look to see if I got kicked to the side rail.

Fatboy, Donnie did it for the cash, against one of the best players on the planet, very impressive.

HELLOOO JeRRRY, I mean Jude lol, welcome back. Funny or sad thing is once we find the dead corner ball and run a rack or 2 or 3 our opponents are quite often doing their best to rack in a different spot or different way. I can count on one hand how many players have tried to give me the same rack regardless of how often I?m running out. Tony Crosby comes to mind as one of them. The man racks as well as anyone and will consistently try to give you the same rack. Others have actually said out loud, you?re not getting that rack again or I have to change that.
I guess the whole idea is the same as it was when I first wrote the book, it?s a flawed configuration and we should switch to 10 ball, too many problems and usually not fair to one player who can give good racks while receiving slightly less than good racks.

Thanks for the props and bringing attention to the cue ball and staying in line, that?s what it?s all about right. Sing it, I I I Stayin in liiiiiine!

Enough of this 6 pack stuff, how was Florida?

Great shooting as usual Joe.

Koop
