Extending subrails

While the mech was fixing the seams on my table I asked how he would extend the subrails on my gc. He said he would use some type of rubber pad and not wood. Then replace the rails. What are you thoughts about doing it this way? Doesn't seem like the right way to me....

I second that:grin:

I third dat :grin-square: To make this short story long, that is, if the customer is having new cushions installed. If he/she is just trying to tighten pockets, then double facings is a FRACTION of the cost and if cut and trimmed properly, will work until cushions are shot and you have to change them out.

He has already double shimmed the pockets when he recovered the table. The table still plays like it has buckets though. Corner pocket are 5 inch I believe.

Glen, you going to help me out here? I want it done right!

Sure wish you'd have mentioned that in your first post. Could have saved some me some ink

Send your rails to Rob Kay (TableTek) he has a shop and I know he can do them perfect.

pads vs subrail extensions

RKC did my GC II with subrail extensions a while back. I have a friend who stops by once a week or so. He was a road player for decades and plays pro speed one pocket among other things. Wednesday night he stopped by and started playing shots to his hole off the side points. He commented that he had never seen a table anywhere in the country where he could play those shots so predictably. Even if you never have the need, isn't it nice to know you have the option?

rail extensions? the good, the bad and the ugly. Regardless of what method is used they don't really make much difference as long as you extend them with live cushions. Perhaps adding wood, gluing it, nailing it etc is actually wrong? why would I say that?

When I play One hole with my buddy he always gripes when he has this pocket... Seems like the shim the mechanic used was not done right...

it looks like you can see the point of both facings. did he double them up or use a thicker one?
