Extremely Rare Schön: Another Look

I thought I'd repost a rare cue for those who haven't seen it so here's another look at one of the rarest Schöns out there. It's a custom R-14 made in late 1981/early 82' preceding the decision of which models to included in the R Series line. From my understanding a few versions (3-4) of what would become the catalog R-14 were were built, all different. This one is the only one with this inlay combination and only one known to include a flat faced white Implex joint not the standard 5/16 14 thread piloted stainless. From my understanding this is TRUE Implex, meaning the original material actually brand named "Implex". I guess there was a time when they called other similar material Implex but it was just a general term used for plastic similar to throwing around the use of the word "Kleenex" when asking for a tissue. It also includes the milk white Delrin butt cap the came on the earlier Schöns.

This cue really has a fantastic hit. I played around a little with it before I sent her out for "spa" treatment. Since its restoration I've only dry hit with it but it remains very impressive with it's center ball feel very solid and the cue ball very lively unlike any other Schön I've played with. Including the the R-14 made for me back in 84' that I played with for a long time. I may actually prefer this feel over my 84'

Thanks to Pete Tascarella for doing me a favor by accepting this cue for restoration and bringing it back to its glory! The Tascarella's work is truly remarkable. Enjoy!!

Wow. Great cue. I do love the old ones and this is of course an exceptional example.

And the resto work is perfect. Gotta preserve the classics.

Thanks for showing off!

Nice update on this cue, one of my favorites Schons on this site. You're right about Implex; a lot of materials used may have had reference of the term incorrectly. It was popular as far as I know in the 70s, probably 60s, and somewhat more rare in the 80s. For example, whenever you see an older Joss or possibly JossWest from the early days with white-ish or off-white material in the butt sleeve or butt plate, it's probably the original implex also, assuming the butt plate is not delrin.

Pete did an excellent treatment on this Schon.

All the best,
WW

Beautiful! Looks brand new. Definitely one of the best Schons I've ever seen...maybe the best.

Great looking cue from the past. Who created the extra shafts with the aged micarta ferrules?

Schön made the shafts with some original stock yellow Westinghouse micarta and Pete T. tapered, faced, and finished them perfectly...
