Fake Moori tips?

I ordered five of what I thought were Moori Soft tips from an online supplier. I got them and and just took one to a pretty experienced installer to put on a cue. He told me he thought there was a good chance they were not real Mooris, rather they were imitation/fake Moori tips.

He had two reasons for thinking so. First, was that the symbol on them looked a little off to him. Second, he said he put them in a vise and they compressed a lot more than he felt they should, even for soft tips.

Is there some way I'd be able to tell conclusively?

Also, where is a reputable place to buy Moori tips (or others, for that matter) at good prices? I didn't know it at the time, but the place I bought it from has apparently had some issues before, although to my knowledge not with fake tips.

Were they sealed in plastic or did they come like that? The ones I have got were always sealed and the logo on them looked different, but I am no expert. Also the ones I have gotten always have said glue side on them.

hhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I had been wondering this too as the latest version of mooris seems to have the logo different on the top.

The 3rd generation mooris that came in the blister packs initially had standard font writing front and back, i then heard something about 3.5 generation mooris and then when i got some more they had bubble writing like in the pictures and the glue logo on the back.

I did not like these tips at all they definitely felt different,

Is there any pro installers on here who have seen these who can help out?

Part of the reason for the new packaging was all of the counterfeits, but I have no idea how to tell if this one is real or not.

The tips you have look exactly like all of the current mooris we are receiving. Moori just changed up the logo and they are now in the blister packs. Make sure the blister has a gold foil in at least one corner. The foil is water marked.

Those are real..

Quick- is way to hard.
Medium- is to hard plays like the old hard tips.
soft- plays close to the old medium tips.

I just quit using them went back to Milk Dud tips. Most o people I know are using the kamuri tips everyone like them better then the new Moori's.

thanks for the help guys. I'll assume they're real mooris. Make me feel a lot better, too, because I sold two of them locally...

I'm playing with that kind of Moori now, and like the original poster, I've been wondering if those are fake too.

I tried the quick first, and like "n10spool", I came to a conclusion it's way too hard, much harder than the old Moori hard. Now I'm using similar Moori medium, and it's again harder than the previous Moori med, and doesn't give as lively feel and spin. I moist it occasionally and at the same time give some Tip Pik (with sharp needles) to it, and it has helped but I'm not happy about it still.

Will probably go for Kamui next time. They've also said Everest could be good, I don't know..

Inconsistency of quality is so frustrating..

Still must add, that even I've been suspecting they are fake (because of the feel), it would be somewhat stupid to do fake Mooris, and then change the logo and put something different in it (like the glue pic). I'd guess if it were fake, they'd try to imitate the logo, text, etc. as well as possible and wouldn't create their own stuff..

It's just shame that the quality has decreased..

I remember when alot of players were using Everest tips on thier break cues nowadys they are being used for playing tips and standard on some cue lines. I liked them on the new p2 shafts I think its wonderful I havnt changed tips yet to see if its the shaft or the tip.

I pickup another cue that has black tips installed and the feel just like the moori tip sponge and dont know when you hit the cue ball it does feel like i'm punching through the cue ball or have that crisp hit feel. I have only 2-3 hours on it so far and trying to keep an open mind on the tip.

Why did he feel it necessary to compress them in a vise? If they were to mushroom, you just have him cut the shroom off and all is well.

Compressing them leads to inconsistency as well as changing the hardness of the tip. If you wanted them harder, why not go a step up to the medium?

The tips are real by the way, as has been stated.

It's real. And the blister packs now have an anti-counterfitting gold foil thingy in the bottom corner.....or top corner depending on how you're holding it. hehe!!

Also, there was a rumor around here recently that there was a shortage of Moori tips again. It's not true. There is no shortage. Moori is still pumping them out as always. He just has a wider distribution area now with Russia and China getting into the Moori craze. There is no reason for anyone to be charging outlandish prices for Moori tips.

I started using the BlackJack tips a couple of months ago on a Carmeli to try them out, and also put one onto a sneaky from Mike Stacey to see how it did with that.
I wasn't too sure about it at first, but I really like them alot more than the new Moori's.
No complaints and they hold up extremely well.
