Just surfing e-bay and saw several adds for Moori tips as usual, but also saw some folks claiming that fake Moori tips are being made in Taiwan and China. It is my understanding that the real Moori tips come from Japan, anyone with some experience importing them care to elaborate on this?

Yes the Moori brand comes from Japan......... I havent heard of them being copied though.......................

Fakes

Yes, there are fake Moori's around. I live in Korea and there are a lot of fakes. You know when you put one on your cue and you miscue every other shot. You don't know why when you have one of the best tips you can buy. Change the tip and the miscue stops.

About seven months ago I made friends with one of the workers at a local pool hall, where they sell Moori's for 10 bucks a tip. I wanted to replace the tip I had and asked him if I could buy a tip and he said that he didn't have any Moori's. But I just saw the can with Moori's in it when they sold someone else a tip. He looks at me and says "You don't want that tip. I'll let you know when we get some Moori's."

Yes, I have seen fake Mooris from some Asian countries. Some of them looked very poorly made.

I have seen some Moori in a tin which was much bigger than the actual real tin; Moori tips which were stamped Moori I Made in Japan on one side, and then Glue Here on the other; Moori tips which stamped Moori M III Made in Japan with yellow ink, with only 7 layers; Moori tips with stamps on only one side; Moori tips which had 13 layers...etc.

I saw a local cue maker here with a tin which had the Moori logo all wrong. And he told me he got his Moori from Japan (??) I was there with a Japanese player, we looked at each other and then just left.

I haven't seen any of the fakes yet, but it's probably because of the fact that they'd be hard to pass here in Japan. However, it doesn't suprise me, and especially if they're coming from China and/or Taiwan. I personally know of, and have seen the work of a Taiwanese gentleman that can make you any cue you want. He'll make you a Gina, Southwest, McWorter, whatever you want. It's very unfortunate though because his work demonstrates that he is actually a very talented cue maker if he'd only go legit.

Moori Copy

We were sent a sample of some layered tips that when installed you couldn't tell they weren't Moori's. After checking them I found that the Moori tip layers will rip as you pull them apart and these other tips would just come right off(layers). I would say this is caused by using a cheaper or different glue.
