Fancy jump/break cues waste of money?

I am wondering why anyone would spend extra money to have exotic woods and extras on a jump/break cue?

I've got a $59.00 Jackhammer from Carlscues off ebay and it breaks and jumps like a monster.

Don't get me wrong, if you've got the extra dough and you just want to look good more power to you.

i have a gilbert that i love. i've tried cheaper j/b cues and some of the do work pretty good, but none of them could hold a candle to my gilbert. it's really easy to control the cueball when jumping (easy as it can be i guess)

It's all reletive. I have about $700 worth of cues in my case. To some people, that might seem like way too much, and others have spent far more. Income levels have a lot to do with it, as well as a person's personal priorities. Why would someone spend $100K on a car when a less expensive $30K car will still get you where you need to go?

For that matter buying a fancy wood/inlay shooting cue is a waste. I like seeing matching sets of cues. I wouldn't make that investment but they are nice.

the very same reason why you opt to buy a ferrari over a honda.
Yep, it's the "look at me" factor. If you can't impress people with your play, you can impress them by owning a $2k cue.

people buy them because it makes them happy. If something optional didn't make you happy, would you do it? No. If you have the funds to do it; go for it!

its all about what you want, my friend (who is much better off than me) breaks with a J&J and I have a BK2.

Maybe there's a reason he's better off than you. $60 for a breaker instead of $360 puts $300 in the bank.

Just ribbing you. One question - who breaks better - you or him? If you switch cues, who breaks better?

i like to think i break better than him (execpt for when i jump the CB off the table) I don't really ever use his cue to break, but i do break when we play doubles together. I have used another J&J to break before and i will take the BK2 over it all day long.

Why do people wear jewelry, when some do not? Why do some buy designer clothes when some by clothes from Target or Walmart?

I've never seen a fancy inlay pot a ball, so it's obvious that inlays will not make you a better shooter.

Just because.

I often wonder when anyone asks similar questions, do you really not know the answer? Do you really think those that put additional money into fancier cues don't know the answer?

Fred <~~~ never met a player think that the fancier cue said anything about his game

I've an el cheapo j/b too, but I've got a lot of expensive cues. I could understand why somebody would be drawn to fancy j/b's too.

<edit>
I just went over to ebay and looked at it. The use of this expression ...
THIS CUE "BREAKS A TON!"
... is a good enough reason not to go near it for me. LOL.

I have a quite custom jump cue that pairs with my reserve play cue and is made of different exotic materials. More than a fine piece of art, it serves its purpose as I can easily jump with it even with less than a ball jump space.

I also have a custom break cue pj (which can also be turned into a play cue) made of a very rare hard wood that is harder than maple, has tighter grains & plays like a purple heart. Its natural yellow color makes it look like a tainted cue. More importantly, it spreads balls really well.

Were they a waste of money? For me, I got more than what I paid for as not only do I have unique works of art, I also have these cues that PERFORM as what they are intended to do in the first place.

What use is a Ferrari if you can't use it all or even maximize its full potential? ;)

My MG Sledgehammer is by far my favorite jb cue ever and I have tried everything from BK2 to Stingers, etc, etc. You may not believe me but even yesterday I pocketed 4 balls on the break and the cue also jumps super easy. Super happy with it.
