I play to hang with my friends the actual game is not really of much concern. The opponents are for the most part friends as well. The pool game itself feels to me like what you would do at a Christmas party. Not sure how the opponents feel. My guess is they take it more seriously like I used to 15 years ago when I finished in first place in league play year after year. There are about 4 other players in our league that I will bear down when playing just out of respect. The rest is recreational only like a single mother.
Also if you don't play 8 weeks you are not eligible for the BCA regional event which is much more serious and fun.
