This is what I always heard/read many times. I never heard that Ronnie claimed it himself but that was what other people said. I argued with Parker back on rec.sport.billiard years ago, he said Tevis was a drunk and a liar. I think Parker was full of it. He just tried to pull the same deal as Fats.
