This one is really for the boys...but girls you can answer too. Do to several recent threads on various message boards, I have decided to ask this question. Please answer honestly. The poll votes are not public, so no one will know what you voted for. I understand that your answer can be a combination of all of the above, but please pick the one the has the most weight for you. You may go into detail via a response to this thread. If you pick other...what is the other criteria that cast your fav as your fav?

This poll will be open for 7 days.

Thanx for playing along.

FYI- my pick is personality...but I'm a girl, so does that really count?

I pick skills, but I really want to pick skills and personality...because, hey I'm a girl also, and I wouldn't route for a player, even if they were perfect, if their personality sucked! And there are several that fit that, in the WPBA.
I guess I don't count either, lol.

Like your signature landshark77! haha.

*yay, my first post! boo-yah*

I'd have to say I'm more a fan of "mad skills" than the other criteria you posted, just so long as the player's personality isn't completely rotten. "Sexy" is fun to look at, but if that's all she's got, I'll be damned before I endorse an Anna Kournikova of pool. Allison Fisher is my fav, but I'm glad Karen is there to keep her on her toes.

Ha! It's actually the opening lyrics to a Bare Naked Ladies song, but it is fitting, especailly after a thread in Sarah Rousey's forum.

I am with everyone on the skills aspect, but IMO, they all can play...if they couldn't they wouldn't be a pro, right? So personality is the first priority in my ranking system.

My favorite WPBA pro has to be a good player. More power to those whose favorite player isn't good enough to have a realistic chance to win a tournament. My favorite player must also be a good entertainer that connects with the fans. still, over and above this, my favorite player must
have the ten qualities below:

1) Good etiquette and demeanor
2) Provides encouragement to pool enthusiasts
3) Feels a responsibility to the game and its administration
4) Feels a responsibility to the youth of the game
5) Feels obligated to dress well in any pool venue, including a pool hall
6) Feels an obligation to be charitable and follows it through
7) Wants to be an ambassador for pool and willing to invest a lot of time in it
8) Wants to interact with the fans and takes the trouble to do so
9) Does a lot to raise the profile of the game of pool
10) Provides encouragement to and is accessible to emerging pro players

My favorite WPBA pro has all these qualities in spades.

Well, SJM, I would say that criteria falls broadly under personality. If someone had all of those traits, but just wasn't breaking into the top 4 at tourneys would that make a diffrence in how you felt about that player?

Allison gets my vote.

Perfect stroke without any cue wobbling at all. Incredibly precise, gets the job done. True proffesional.

A very nice looking lady who plays a mean game of pool...

The Teaxs Tournato .love her style so free .And she realiy love the game...

I guess I have 2 favorites:
Ga Young Kim- When she missed that 8 ball twice against Karen Corr (the BCA Ithink) for the win. She became a person I can relate to,except I wait until I'm in the car before I breakdown. I've liked her eversince then though.

Jennifer Chen- Multi talented and vvvvvery easy on the eyes.

Andy

Gotta go with Jeanette Lee because she is/has each of your poll choices, except #1....she's #3 and trying. Don't know how much she'll try now that she's taken on momhood.

That player could become my favorite, too.

This pretty much describes my favorite WPBA player to a tee. Linda Haywood is all of that. She actually dropped off the WPBA rolls for a while to promote women in pool. I don't think she liked how it was somehow made so difficult to break into the WPBA as a newcomer. She promoted and helped? (may have done it all?) put on tournaments in the Baltimore area for a couple years. SHe did it just to get more women interested and let them get some experience in the tournament arenas.

She is now back on the WPBA tour and I have seen her listed in the money. Although I have not seen her recently, I am sure she is still accessable and doing all she can to promote the sport.

Huh, interesting numbers so far. What is everyone's other criteria? What did I leave out? I am most suprised thus far about the amount of other votes. I guess I am glad skill is in the lead, but I am somewhat disapointed that looks has taken second (or tied with other). Your thoughts.....

Skill & Integrity should lead. Looks should be either presentable or not. Not "Hot" or "Easy on the eyes". I see some of the men here hold the hotness in high regard.

Maybe the women here should decide who the best of the men are citing "hot" as criteria behind skill??? Ladies?

I don't know, Phyl. I really don't want the boys to get to much flack. I wanted honest answers, and it seems I am getting them. In reality, I think all humans are drawn to people based on their looks first. As far as the WPBA, the skill got them there. They wouldn't be there if they could not shoot to some degree. How many fans actually know the players well enough to be able to rate their personalities? Really all we have to rely on is the media and hearsay, what little we see on TV, and what we see at tourneys. I know that I am drawn to entertainment. If someone was the Globetrotters of pool I would be behind them all the way, but then again I don't know if this is because I am who I am or if it is because I am a woman. But I can not hold it against the boys for being drawn to beauty, no matter how disappointing it is. Then again, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder...

I guess the real question for the boys is that if your fav is your fav, based on looks alone, and then you come to find out that her personality sucked, would she still be your favorite? Do classiness, morals, and attitude outweigh looks?

I would like to know that too landshark77.

Because as a female fan of the WPBA and the game in general, I would hope their answer wouldn't be 'yes'.
As far as male players, I never really payed attention to looks so much, it was about the game, and their body language and interaction IN the game, that's made me a fan or not. And if I did come to know any player, male or female, that had a horrible personality, then I would lose some respect for their game. I would not deny their skills, or downgrade them, but I just wouldn't feel the same.

That's why I am 100% behind players that may not be #1, but their outlook is great, and they are truly great people, b/c they deserve to be there, in ever aspect of the game, on and off the table. (:
So, I agree with you.

I'll tell you something....the players that people are really drawn to usually have a combination of it all.

I certainly don't have Jennifer B's body (then again...not many do), but I have had guys tell me that the combination of skills, personality and looks is why they like watching me play or why they have become a fan. (OK I just reread that sentence and it seems a little conceited....please don't take it that way....I just meant that I have had fans tell me that...not that I believe it all.....LOL)

I personally have seen or met several girls in my life who weren't the hottest girl in the room, but they certainly drew the most attention. I think that people are "attracted" to women that carry themselves with an air of confidence....and when a girl has "mad skills" on the pool table, they usually have that confidence. And if they happen to be a little attractive too....then they can definitely become stars in the pool world.

Hey, when you got it, you got it! :p You go girl!

But that is my point, why should us girls feel as though we have to be "a little attractive" too? Why can't the skills and personality allow them to become stars in the pool world? I mean really, look at the boys, most of the famous ones, I mean the really famous ones are not Brad Pitt's of pool. Yet, with women’s pool it is different. Those who are deemed the best looking get the most attention outside of the general pool arena. It' s not my intention to pin point any one person, but Allison is #1 and Karen is #2, yet the name most linked to women's pool is Jeanette's. Is it because she is a great player? Is it because outta all the ladies, she has the best personality? Or is it that pool is still dominated by the boys and she has a hot looking body? To what degree does sexiness make or break a player in/outside of the WPBA?

BTW, thank you Melissa for sharing your thoughts with us. It's great to get an "inside" perspective.
