Favorite instuctional pool book?

From when I was a kid.

I got the most from Phil Capelle's series, Bob Henning's Pro Book and Advanced Pro Book, and "Pleasures of Small Motions."
 
Play your best pool by Capelle has lots of excellent info.
Byrne has a likeable style that makes reading it more fun.
Those are my favorites. Both will make you a better player.
 
Freddy the Beard has some cool books. He donated Gospool and Banking to the Senior center. I have only had a chance to thumb threw them. The banking one is loaded with info, and the Gospool has all kinds of interesting
stories and more banking info. He also has an 8 ball book, I have never had a chance to look at that one.:)

Do any of these books have suggested practice patterns for 9 ball that will show all the patterns that come up so often? The idea is that the patterns will require you to use every different kind of stroke to get out. I've heard Earl Strickland says there are 11 of them, and are a secret to consistent 9 ball.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Well I tracked down the guy I loaned my Autographed First Edition of my Ray Martin book. He had lost it years ago, and recently bought a new house and was moving and found the book. He no longer had my number, but as luck would have it, I called him, and he said...Man that is wierd I just found the book.:D

All games? You need to include more than one book. Daly's Billiard Book for ball-to-ball billiards. Byrne's books for general and especially 3-cushion. The Matchroom Snooker book for that. Cranfield and Moy for 14.1. Capelle and Fels for several games. Robin for one pocket.

It is not possible to get a full education from just one book, just as you can't become a complete player with just one game. Efren plays snooker and carom billiards besides pool. Maybe that helps him.

Also, when reading any book it's important to remember that the author probably made mistakes or at least got things partly wrong. If you cannot see some of those mistakes, you have not yet really understood the book. With books as well as with instructors, you have to test what you are told.
 
I have a few books and a few tapes, but always go back to 99 critical shots.
Another book i truely enjoy over and over is Precision Pool by Gerry Kanov and Shari Stauch. I really enjoy the seven day pool work out at the end.

I second that. This is an excellent series. It's really something you can take to the table to use. You can use all your other books as a reference. I recommend this to anyone that wants to improve your game.
