Council

I was curious about the council also...do you have different people from different cities to consult about a player's speed?? If you don't wanna post it, feel free to pm. :D

Yes, Council members are from different parts of the state. The member who best knows the "player in question" does has some influence on the other members, obviously.

Thanks

$100 Ring Game...

The Ring Game is Friday Feb 9th at Shooters Billiards in Waco. That's on New Rd between Waco Dr. and Valley Mills. Must be signed up by 7:45pm Friday night. To Play you must be qualified for the monthly tournament.

We still have some spots. We now have 3 tables available and can go up to 18 players.

Ring Game....

We had 10 players battling it out at Shooters on New Rd. for the ring game title.

There was action from $2. games to $50 sets. There were people ready for sets in the 2-500 range but no takers.

1st- Brian Sanders from Austin
2nd -Carl Ray from Waco ( hey! one for the home team)
3rd- Wendell Moser from Houston.

No, It was fun! Tough ring game tonight . It would be a lot more fun with more players next month so shell out the $100 and come play.

I just found out today I will no longer be working weekends after this one. I am planning on making the next tourney! :)

Ray who won the tournament?

I think the tournament should go to random seating after this last month. The whole seating with the high stake calcutta players isn't right or working. Daniel Herring and Joe Mac played each other first this month, anyways Daniel sold for $120 and Joe sold for $80 (two of the top seven picks in the calcutta.) Unless these players start having to play each other by chance instead of being orgainzed by yourself the younger and less experienced players don't stand a chance. It's a tournament and who cares what happens in the calcutta from now on make it random. Also make sure you advertise that $10 out of the $50 entry is a green fee. Everyone I talked to this weekend was happy about the payout, but kind of pissy about a $10 green fee that they knew nothing about.
If you make everything random from here on out there will not be any issues about anything in my opinion. I didn't buy either of the players above so it's not an issue of my money. Just make it seem like a real tournament instead of all the hibby jibby gettin your hands sticky crap.
One last thing, I understand you not doing the tournament for free because it's a lot of work, but once again the guys in the ring game were pissed about 10% being taken off the top. You're making a lot of money for both events. This isn't only my opinion.

Zach - Sorry you didn't do well this month. Maybe you'll do better next time.

That has nothing to do with what was said. I was just letting you know what people said. I have a job, and my money isn't the issue here. If I couldn't afford to take the trip and gamble I wouldn't.

Accounting

If anyone would like a full accounting of the time and effort put into compiling the Waco Tournament please shoot me a PM and I'll forward it to you.

I do travel extensively and attend numerous tournaments were I am paid less than minumum wage. It is true I make some money running this event. A LOT of money? No.

If anyone loves pool as much as I do and is willing to work really cheap, I'll be happy to share any of the behind the scenes work with you ( including keeping this thread going).

Thanks,

Ray

ps. I appreciate hearing from anyone that has input on the Waco Tournament.

I just wanna say that I think Ray puts on a great tournament considering he has his own business that takes up a lot of his time. He organizes the tourney, ring game, calcutta, and keep a good repoire with all of the venues..wouldn't you want to get paid at least a little bit if you were working on this kind of tourney and putting in that kind of time?? I did hear a few people complaining about having to pay the 50 bux instead of the 30 this month, but I also heard several players talking about how the extra 20 bux discouraged the casual banger from playing and made the tournament more challenging.

Are you not reading what I'm saying people. I don't disagree that it is ok for him to get paid, but let clicks pay him............. It's illegal to take money out of the tournament and calcutta. http://www.gambling-law-us.com/State-Laws/Texas/ ........... I don't mind the extra $20 on the entry fee either. Ray 6 hours for the ring game and $100 for it is more than minimum wage last time I checked.

Ray that was childish what you said about me not doing well. I was trying to help that's all.

Zach

He didn't address the green fee before hand look on here it says $50 entry fee. The Money isn't even the big issue . It was the seating arrangement for the tournament that was in question. Then he popped off by saying "sorry you didn't do well this month". What does that have to do with any of the issues I addressed?

In most cases for tournaments, you can expect either a green fee or table drop.

I have run into this situation before where players think that you should donate your time, in addition to the expense of promoting the event coming from your own pocket. It never ceases to amaze me...

I took his jesture regarding "Sorry you didn't do well this month" as being nice, not in anyway nasty towards you. He didn't say listen Dude, if you don't like it, don't come back!

Ray has a good reputation and regardless of what he is making on this event, he shouldn't do it for free. By the way Zach, how much do you make an hour? Is that really any of my business?

I want everyone to know all I want is fairness and consistency.

For example, Jason Pearce is a good player and everyone knows that. However, last month he was allowed to play. He came down and played and went for 300+ in the Calcutta out of his pocket, plus the entry fee of $30, and didn't even come close to getting in the money. A couple of weeks later on the way back from a fast eddies tournament Jason stops in Waco and plays "Snake" whatever his real name is...point is the top "dawg" in town. Point blank Jason beat Snake and the next thing you know he's not allowed to play in the Waco tournament any more, which previously stated that you couldn't play if you had finished 5th-6th or better in any major tournament. To this date Jason has done no such thing, but he's not allowed to play in the tournament now.

Then there are girls who want to play who play on the women’s tour. I've personally seen some women who could run my butt all up and down a pool table, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be able to play. You made qualifications for the tournament and didn't stick with them. This isn't one of those things where you make up the rules as you go along.

I understand the whole council thing being anonymous because no one likes a rat, but how do we know who's on the council, and if there really is one. Or is it a couple Waco locals sitting in their garage saying oh no, he shouldn't play, we can't beat him.
