Fedor vs Shane argue with me

What size pockets? With it being 10B I have zero interest in actually watching the match. I'd love to watch 1P, 8B, or 9B but 10B causes my eyes to glaze over.

Please no 9b or 10b.

I am tired of 9b and I see how the general pool fans are too. More and more people speaking out about how boring and repetitive it can get. It's already boring on a local level. I am gravitating towards the guys that play straight pool and 8b lately. The reason they play 8b because their league plays it. It's become the norm again and they are playing 8b on 9 footers too. I enjoy picking up a game against them. It's different after all these years of playing 9b.

Let them play straight pool.

Yeah rotation isn’t great to watch. Wish straight pool could be the pro game again or more 1 pocket.

do you think shane would play fedor one pocket for a significant sum?

i don't. in the end it has to be a game they and their backers agree on, not what we would want to see

You like what you like and should certainly watch and play the games you enjoy the most.

10ball is still a fringe game and may always be. There are probably twenty significant 9ball events for every 10ball event. No call shot game will ever replace 9ball. Snooker does not use call shot, and neither does one-pocket, surely the most difficult game played on a pool table. The notion that call-shot is somehow needed to preserve a game's integrity is among the most ridiculous in recent times.

That said, demand for participation in 9ball events has never been higher. Streaming numbers for 9ball have never been higher. No, general pool fans are not tired of 9ball, and 9ball has, in the last few years, brought pro pool to the highest heights we have ever seen, in terms of investment, production quality, participation, and fandom. The event on the pro pool calendar in which fan interest is highest, by far, is the Mosconi Cup, a 9ball event, which tends to sell out within a few days of the onset of ticket sales.

9ball is not repetitious, either. Per AtLarge stats, the break and run rate at the European Open, the most recent 9ball major was 23%. Nobody is stringing racks in the 9ball majors and most of the racks played are fought for, with defensive and tactical play at a premium. It is not clear how that could be labeled repetitious.

One day, the 9ball era will end, just as the straight pool era did, but the 9ball era is now about forty years old and it is probably going stronger than ever before.

Not much one can do to argue with the points made here. My opinion only, but I think the lion's share of the credit goes to matchroom, predator, and social media. Matchroom and predator have made significant $$ investments in the game and hopefully this is just the beginning of their return and the growth of the game.

Likewise, the popularity of various social media platforms has allowed pool players to build and promote their brands like never before. Whether it is Neils and his excellent tutorials, Savannah Easton playing scotch doubles with SVB, or Skylar selling raffle tickets for the latest cuetech cue on his facebook page, players have more ways to increase their marketability than ever before.

However, I agree that watching professional 9 ball is boring as all get out to me...personal opinion. I get why MR is trying to standardize the game, but once they really get going, I would love to see them branch out into other games or disciplines.

After all, the best over- all athlete in the world has traditionally been the best decathlete , and not the fastest sprinter....or highest jumper, etc.

Nice post. Well said!

I could see 10-ball getting popular if it was played same rules as 9-ball….which is the only way I’ve gambled at it.
….I also abhor long matches. Races to triple figures I never watch, even the ones I bet on.

I'd like to see super sets with pay for meeting various conditions. Pay every Xgames, every Xahead, pay long strings, on and on...

Give the viewers shit to think for their PPV.
