Ferrule Cleaning

I ran into an issue cleaning a Mcdermott ferrule. These ferrules have the texture to them and dirt and chalk gets into the ferrule. I have not had an issue in the past using 600 grit then up and some unique polishing compound to finish for a clean shine.
This ferrule ferrule seems to be textured all the way through. I have used all hints for cleaning ferrules in the forums also.
Any ideas other than replacing the ferrule, not to mention the tenon is way off center.
It looks ok, but I am kinda anal about letting anyhing not perfect leave my shop.

Thanks

Got me Bud. So far I haven't run across any ferrule material that I couldn't initially clean with Magic Eraser and Alcohol. Then a polish with the proper grit paper and compound either.

The only other thing that will take the chrome off of a Kenworth bumper is Acetone.

Pretty dangerous stuff as it will just about melt anything that it touches. Some materials are safe, others not so much.

I generally will use Acetone for serious dirty shafts. It will take the blues away but I am careful not to come close to the joint collars or ferrules with it. I know some
ferrule material will handle it tho as well as some collar material. Also, no Acetone on Lam shafts.

As far as the off center tenon, I have run across a couple. Just tell the customer and let him decide I guess. All I know is that once you need to replace the ferrule, they can be a *****
to cut straight unless you replace the tenon.

IF linen based ferrules (Aegis, Ivorine) are not sealed before sanding, the sanding dust gets impregnated into the ferrule between the fibers. You could try a magic eraser but I don't think its going to come out. More than likely this is sanding dust from the tip.

You can try the Ask a cuemakers section for more solutions.

Thanks

The customer is happy with it. She never expected it to look as good as it does. Should have seen it before. Red,blue and brown chalk was used I think.

I am not the one happy with it. I am looking for solutions in case I run into another Mcdermot ferrule like this one.
