Looks like an OB shaft, like a OB Classic?.
Usually there should be a Carbon Fiber Pad against the ferrule.
The gap that you are seeing, is normal. However, as a cue repairman, I usually ask the customer to leave a shaft like this with me and allow me to add a epoxy to fill the gap. Then after it has hardened, you can face off the ferrule and epoxy and then you add the carbon fiber pad, which has to be ordered from ob or from a authorized ob repairperson. Then the tip is added to the carbon fiber pad and everything is finished off and shaped like a normal tip install.
Do you still have the tip that came off?
If yes, does it look like the tip is there and also you can see the BLACK carbon fiber pad under the tip?
If yes, the shaft needs to be taken to a repairperson that has the OB carbon fiber pads, DO NOT use the regular fiber pads that are used for like the ivory ferrules. They are a special, stronger than steel, carbon pad that is specifically designed for the open style ferrule on the OB shafts.

ALSO, if anyone puts on a tip without the proper OB carbon pad, the Warranty will be void and also the ferrule with end up failing after a period of time, what will happen is the ferrule wall is no strong enough to withstand the impact and the walls will start to collapse and smash down and will end up cracking and could also damage the thin walled tenon.

Once it is done, properly, you will be as good as new and with the small gap filled, will be even stronger and able to better dispearse pressures. Also, the added epoxy does not change the feel or hit, I have done it maybe 40 or 50 times and no one has ever complained or made a negative comment, in fact they have been happier with the hit and how it holds up.
