Ferrule question, what am I doing wrong?

that ferrule looks soft and does no look like Juma............... try cutting out and off the end instead of cutting in.... you may be getting that when you drag the tool out after cutting in

Probably wrong cutting tool at wrong angle, large cut, soft material..chatter, :)

I have been doing some testing and I think my issue is with the quick Change post having some play in it. I pushed against it while cutting a ferrule and the results were much better. I'm using a Cue companion and I did my own design to add the QCTP so this is user error but I'm on the right track. Thank you everyone for the ideas.

IC20 grade of insert from Iscar are the sharpest geometry inserts I have seen. They are used in the plastic seal making industry. They work wonders on plastics and wood. Not for steel's though. Will cut Titanium and tips. I would not reccomend cutting G10 with them as it is really abrasive.

Lately I have had a rash of no name cues that needed ferrules. I have been using Juma ones but no matter what I do they come out like the picture and I have to sand the heck out of them to get them smooth. I tried new cutter, higher and lower speed and no matter what I do, they come out like the picture. I need to purchase some more ferrules and looking for recommendations?

Thanks,

That doesn't look like Juma at all. you sure it's not XTC or something else? Looks too white.

Tool or post likely too loose, height could be off, feed is definitely too fast. Or like Mike Webb said, ferrule maybe sticking out too far from the chuck? You don't want to allow too much deflection.

I agree with earlier poster, I hate indexable cutting tools. Brazed carbide cutting tools are cheaper and can be re-sharpened and more easily customized. you can also grind it with a wider cutting edge so that it overlaps as it makes each revolution. Hard to explain but it helps to eliminate the "rings" from too pointy of a tool. Don't waste your time with high speed steel.
