I was hoping someone could tell me or rank the ferrulles in terms of weight.

Heavyist

Ivory
ivory x
micarta
melamine
Meucci
& etc.

I cant think of them all right now for some reason. I have become a deflection junkie and found I like a little deflection in my cue, just not to the extreme of ivory and definitly not the extreme of predator. Just some where in between. THis info would be great in deciding on a new ferrule. I Looked all over on cuecompents and atlas for the weight of the ferulle products! Surpisingly no weight info listed!!!

Thanks!

This has been asked before. Do a search the info is here. What also matters is hardness and how the ferrules play (feel) for you.

Also there is only one "king kong" in today's pool world and his name is Bernardo Chavez. If you are not Bernardo (and I'd bet my last dollar you aren't) it is rediculous that you use his name--unless you were completely unaware. It would be like me calling myself "Bata" or "The Rifleman" or "Cornbread."

Hi Jazz

You are correct. I am not Bernardo Chavez. I am Michael Wilson! As far as the name King Kong. I loved the movie as a kid. I am 32 right now. Bernardo Chavez is on the west coast and I am completely unfamiliar of him as I reside in DC near Keith Mc Cready and JAM! I picked the name because "NO ONE" was using it, I am black & was unaware of chavez claim to it as you eluded.

Additionally, it is not my faulty that Mr. Chavez has not made a name for himself and has not been a headliner in the 20 plus years I have been playing. I barely see him listed ANYWHERE! US Open, Derby City & UPA Players List & etc and NOT AS KING KONG. He doesn't even place! Your point would be valid if I called myself the scorpion, the miz, or captain hook all legends!!! But, King Kong and Bernardo Chavez does not rise to the level of name theft. Especially for a dinasaur road player from the 70' & 60's no one has heard much about!

I am not really partial to the name so Mr. Chavez is free to obtain it. he can email me at mwilsoncbi@yahoo.com or send me a private message and I will RELINQUISH the name to him. No STRINGS ATTACHED!!!!

I am stunned that you did not answer my question and chose this tread to flip out regarding me posting as King Kong. There was some Yahoo trying to pawn him self of as the scorpion in the Main Tread a day or two ago. By no means am I one of those IDIOTS!!!!

Just giving you a heads up. Bernardo is a champion. Ask Keith! He plays all games at a high-level including golf on 6x12, bar box anything, big table 9-ball and one-pocket. Nobody cuts balls better than him anywhere at any time in pool today or yesterday. Ask any well-travelled or seasoned player if they know who "King Kong" the pool player is. You can call yourself whatever you like. I'm trying to pass along good information not flame your arse...

Man I love this place. Information and entertainment all at once.

I, by no means am a cue builder, but wouldn't the size of the ferrell (length, thickness) have something to do with the weight? Are you looking for more weight near the tip in order to make longer contact with the cue ball? If so, I'd like to hear more about this from others as I am interested.

And NO! I am not King Kong. (Though my girlfriend thinks otherwise)

The thickness of the wall and the cap are factors either.
Efren won the US Open, World 9-ball and 3 world 8's on a cueball ferrule.
I wonder if he weighed it.

You guys are something. It is true Sigel and efren won with cue ball ferrulles and it is also true that they do not use those cues any more. Sigels cue to my limited knowledge appears to be a 1/2 ferrule and the same with efren i.e. predator or some LBM ferrule. Ivory would crack trying for that size.

Weight is critcal to deflection. less tip weight less deflection. more tip weight more deflection. Also, if really hard the deflection is minimized. if soft more deflection. Hard will not give and is stiff. Soft gives and bends. Kind of like hitting a trampaline versus hitting a brick wall.
