Fiddleback shaft wood

Curious if fiddleback for shafts isa plus or minus as far as price, hit and stability of straightness. Bought a Schon SL7 Monday night.Cue came with 5 shafts, one of which was fiddleback maple. Shaft got my curiosity up. Very unique looking. Tip was worn, so had new Sniper installed. Best hit of any I have shot with. Amazing hit. Have owned R. Black, Black Boar, Olivier, Josey and 8 Schons over the last 11 years. Never had a cue with such a phenominal hit.Was it the shaft or the tip or both ? By the way the cue shot great with each of the 4 other shafts. Assuption can be made that butt of cue was in balance with any shaft. Curious to hear cuemakers response. Thanks Rod

"Fiddleback" or curly maple tends to be unstable and can move on you, which is why most core it, even in a forearm. It's not real desirable in a shaft for just that reason, but you never know, yours could stay straight forever. If it was stabilized in Nelsonite or Resolute that may or may not help it stay straight, and certainly would differentiate the hit from a non-stabilized solid maple shaft. There are lots of variables and few guarantees with an organic material like wood.

some people actually seek it out and to them it is more valuable,but as a general rule i would say the price should be the same,and then some people do not like it.if it is extremely curly i wouldn't want it.

I have a shaft for my Mike Stacey cue that is made of very curly maple and it hits awesome.

likewise. i made 5 shafts for a playing cue of mine and the 5th one was super curly and played the best. stayed straight too

I have an Auerbach with a curly shaft and it's the lowest deflection regular shaft I've ever had !!!!!!
