I think he should do some prematch interviews loaded with trash talking and some backstory like
"bob has been chasing timmy for some time ever since he beat him out of 2 grand at sharky's".

You want the backstory, and you already have the full names of the 2 players, the amount they currently are playing for, where they are doing that at, and when (let's not forget when). Now you want that to hear the amounts and places + players of all the other times they have played to fill a backstory for you. Are you on one of them new fangled multi jersydictionel tack forcas?

110% agree.
How many people here would be interested in watching a match between John Barton and Lou Figuroa if they didn't follow the "back story"? But now hundreds want to see it.
One of the reasons I like watching the well-known pros is because I feel like I know something about them. An SVB-DarrenA match-up is always going to interest me...not just because they're great players....but because I have a sense of their rivalry.
Every commercially successful sport does this; the NBA probably does it best: Jordan vs. Kobe, Wilt vs. Bill Russel and so on. It adds to the excitement. Manning vs. Manning!
Heck, I'd watch a match between two shortstops if I knew that there was money and PRIDE on the line. But don't make me assume that pride is on the line: give me the scoop!
(while we're on the subject, I'll plug a request for pro commentary: at some point in the match (earlier the better) tell us who the players have won/lost against in this tournament. Example: Ultimate 10-ball Finals. MikaI against some guy named Wang Can. Wang Who? Well, an 18-year old out of China who got here by beating Jayson Shaw 10-6, SVB 10-2, AlexP 10-4 and DarrenA 10-7. Okay! Now I'm interested! It's not his lifestory, but it's a heck of a backstory.)
