Fights in a pool room

Ever been involved or seen one. One time I was t mother's in Charlotte some guys came in and started chucking pool balls across the room then ran out and I heard gun shots. I took cover behind a pool table. Another time at college played a kid for some dough, beat him, and got kneed in the stomach for it. Another time beat some drunk guy at a bar for a few hundred and he wanted to go outside. Told home leave me the f@&k alone and he ends up waiting in the parking lot for me in his car. Got lucky and a cop does a turn around in the parking lot and the guy takes off. Any stories?

I struggle sometimes with players who try to intimidate people through threats or by insuation. I have seen numerous fights in poolrooms but once I was playing and a fight broke out when I was down shooting and got hit over the back of the head. Still today when there is an argument going on next to my table I lose focus really quick until whatever is going on is resolved.

One time I was playing in a tournament in a small bar on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in a town called Brockton. I was getting ready to play the hot-seat match with the local meth dealer and a lot of his customers were there to support him. I went outside to smoke and someone came out and punched me in the face. During the match a few were screaming at me saying they were going to stab me if I made the shot, others pushed me or two hand grabbed my ass while I was shooting. Needless to say, I lost the match. My head was spinning pretty good in that one. I played him again in the finals and the behavior continued and I lost that one as well. I didn't tell anyone it bothered my [obviously it had to] because it probably would have become common-place had people figured it out.

Fights in poolrooms, and anywhere, suck. Mess your hands up and other parts of your body and run the risk of getting your vision messed up or worse. They just aren't worth it.

Bar fights are very loud and strange. I was playing at a place called Charlie Browns, and I took my shot, and behind me, it sounded like a herd of Buffalo were charging and dragging furniture behind them. 10 guys were going at it. One guy hit the owner, she was a hot chick, so I jumped in it too. Another time, a guy threw a cue ball at a guy racking on an 8 footer, hit him in the forehead. It was a real loud pop. I was at a bar in Seattle once, playing for $50 a rack, I had the guy stuck $350, he showed me his gun and said we will be even at the end. I gave him his cash, and left. I heard he had a stroke after that and couldn't play any more. Karma I guess.

This is a big reason why i never liked to play 8- ball in strange bars or in bars period. As soon as you throw booze in the mix and someone loses a couple bucks, you never know whats going to happen. I have seen quite a few guys get worked over for what amounted to basically peanuts.
Once a stranger ventured into our local bar and started playing a friend of mine for something like 5 bucks a game and he lost and got abusive and before you knew it there were 7 guys all over him, he was lucky to get out in one piece and only because me and the bartender and another guy dragged him out, you didnt fool around in the this place if you werent known.
I would like to know how many guys have had to go to the emergency room on a sat night on account of pool fights in bars, im sure the figure is pretty high.

I once saw a chick throw about 6 balls, full pitching speed, at her "boyfriend" from about 20 feet away. The last one hit him right on the forehead, and that was the end of that. He hit the floor, out cold. I had to jet because I was on probation. I later heard that he was very abusive, and she had come to the pool hall to hide from him that night. She wasn't even a pool player, just there to find shelter. I'm glad she didn't hurt anyone else.

I recently saw a fight between two guys that were gambling. The "good guy", lets call him J, had just won a $50 set against the other guy, who was clearly drunk beyond cognizance. J told him to keep his money, because he was obviously drunk, no big deal. Drunk guy insisted they play again. 5 minutes later, J won, but told him again, to keep his money, it's all good. Maybe they could match up some other time.

J goes to the restroom. Drunk guy starts fiddling around with J's cue, and drops it several times. Ends up cracking the shaft near the joint. J comes back and asks "How are we going to resolve this?" and suggests that the $100 he had won should cover it.

Drunk guy starts with the "I ain't giving you shit" talk, and starts yelling at J.

J is super cool, says "Hey, you're drunk. Now is not the time to deal with this. Lets figure it out later."

Drunk guy gets offended and starts arguing with J. Lunges in to try to punch him, but J sidesteps it. J steps back and says something like "Let's not do this. Now is not the time. You're drunk, and you really don't want to fight me."

Drunk guy goes at him again. J slaps him on the face and backs up, saying "Really, you don't want to do this."

Drunk guy lunges at him again. J gives him one hell of a punch to the side of the face. Dude collapses, and bangs his forehead on the table on his way down to the ground. Ends up on the floor, out cold for at least five minutes.

Later, drunk dude stops by to ask me what happened earlier. He had no idea he was even involved. He was just wondering what all the earlier commotion was about.

Wow.

Think twice before participating. It is very easy to find yourself arrested, charged, convicted, tagged with a record (possibly a felony), and possibly doing time.

A stupid way to totally screw up your life in three minutes, and over what?

I've seen a couple of fights in pool halls. When the fur starts flying I split.

I have a rule never to gamble to gamble in bars but 8 ball bar tournaments are fun and they're easy pickins'.

Oddly enough, the biggest pool room troublemaker I ever knew was a 74 year old woman who was constantly spreading rumors and starting fights.

When I was 18, shortly before I joined the Air Force I briefly worked in a poolroom in Antioch, TN called SNOOKERS. There were tons of SNOOKERS stories, but I only ever witnessed one. These three guys had been gambling and I guess two were buddies against the other. They came up and paid for their time and seemed amicable. It wasn't two seconds later two of them were trying to jump the one but he was fighting his ass off...not beating them, but holding his own. I said loudly, "Karl, you might want to see this." Karl was the cop who worked security there at night sometimes. He came around the counter and had them all pinned down (this cop was a big dude) in two seconds flat, and he let them go with a stern lecture.

seen plenty of wolfing in pool rooms but the only fights i have witnessed in a pool room were not pool related but were usually about relationships with men and women and a couple had gun play involved. i saw a pool room owner throw a cue ball at a customer but he didn't hit him so that doesn't count. bars and clubs, well who doesn't have a story. i once had to club some guy with my cue after he slashed my wrist after he wanted to get some revenge. he didn't want the money back just some satisfaction. all he got was a knot on his head. he wasn't drunk either. i try not to play or gamble with folks who are drunk. just a bad idea.

ive seen several people whacked with cues and balls. i got a nice gash across the wrist from a young kid playing with a butterfly knife in front of my face. i assume his attempt at intimidating me didnt go as planned because he ended on his ass, tears in his eyes, and me standing on his hand. go figure the guy he was with was a crooked ass philly cop....

The worst incident i ever seen in a pool hall happen with me my cousin and our friend named Ronnie Smuck (smuck was a well knowed tush hog) in Baltimore anyway.

So us three walk in USA billiards in laurel Maryland (outskirts of balto and dc) this room was open all nite, the place was dead tonite (so were we almost) so after about an hour this young korean guy comes up to Ronnie and ask him if he wanted to go outside and fight (now this is rite up Ronnies alley he loves to fight for money) Ronnie says lets go and turns and heads for the door, but as soon as Ronnie turns the korean guy grabs a pool stick and whacks ronnie across the back, knocking Ronnie down, then this crazy mfer korean dude goes behind the counter and grabs two hands full of knifes, he turns toward Ronnie (at this time Ronnie is coming at him) and throws and sticks a MEAT CLEVER in Ronnies lower leg, now the crazy korean still has a bunch of knifes in his hands, then he says screaming wheres those other two faggots at, meaning me and my cousin, Korean turns and looks at me and i ran full blast out the back door as Ronnie and Eugene (cousin) ran out the front door with that crazy mfer after them.

So Ronnie and Eugene just make it to the truck in time, Ronnie drove a small pick-up truck, so the Korean jumps in the back of the truck pounding at the small window , trying to kill both of them, Eugene made a quick turn and it dumpped that crazy korean out.

They drove to the firehouse around the corner and the paramedics took Ronnie and Eugene and me to the local hospital, i ran out the back door while they went out the front door and i was heading straight for the firehouse to call the police (this was before all the cell phones) and when i got there Eugene and Ronnie was pulling up.

That was the scariest i ever been, i really though if that crazy korean would of got close enough to me he would of tried to kill me!

Late night fight in a night club!

I was at this night club called "Mother's" one time in Texarkana,Arkansas and about 3 oclock in the morning this guy got into it with someone and two bouncers came over to break it up, during all the confusion this one guy wearing jogging pants got his shirt torn off and some how his jogging pants were ripped off, well the guy wasn't wearing underwear and he was "Butt Naked " standing in a night club with about 200 people in it, I thought it was very funny!:D

Know one was hurt but the guy's feeling's that was naked I guess!, .lol

This happened around the three pool tables that were in the night club, always had lots of action at this late nite club.

In all my days I've never seen a fight in a pool room!

This has nothing to do with pool. It's about bars and alcohol. Bars are not pool rooms !

Ran a pool room in San Antonio for 8 years. Rough joint.

Had at least 2 fights a week and at least once every couple of weeks, someone would pull a weapon of some kind.

Problem was the owner refused to bar anyone permanently because he saw it as future income walking out the door. If someone started a fight, I'd throw them out. The next day, they'd call the owner whining and crying it wasn't their fault and they'd be back the next night like nothing happened. Didn't take long for the clientele to figure out all they had to do was talk to the owner and they were home free.

We had a joke around the poolroom that the only way someone could be permanently barred was if they stabbed or shot the owner and then it was only a50/50 chance. LOL

My only saving grace was I hired a guy to work the door and security who was a state wrestling champion. The guy was laid back and was great at talking people down out of fight mode. If someone swung on him, he would put them in a pretzel hold on the floor and whisper in their ear until they calmed down.

One thing I learned over the years was the quickest way to empty a bar or poolroom was for a fight to break out.

Seen a few things in my travels as a road player:

Walked into a bar just as a guy was finishing stomping a guy to death over not paying off on a 50 cent 8 ball game. The word was the guy that did the stomping had just gotten out of prison 10 days before on a murder conviction. It took 6 cops to finally hog tie the guy.

Seen a guy shot and killed over a 5 dollar 8 ball game outside a bar.

Knew a guy that got shot 6 times at one time over gambling with the wrong people and 3 months later ran into him gambling in another poolroom. Just got out of the hospital. Still had a cast on his leg at the time. This guy was the most degenerate gambler I ever knew.

Saw a guy throw a cueball so hard it would have made Nolan Ryan proud from about 40 feet and hit a guy right in the mouth. I think they're still rebuilding his head.

Saw a big ol' tush hog that had been giving everyone trouble during a little weekly 8 ball tourny get hit in the chest with a pool cue thrown like a javelin from someone that had just had enough. The cue went through his upper chest near the shoulder. The tush hog's jaw dropped open in shock. He reached up and grasped the cue to hold it in place and then, fell on his azz to the floor. I didn't stick around to see how it turned out.

That enough for now.

Stones< too old to get involved in stuff like this anymore cuz I'm 0 - 11 in bar fights anyway.

choked a guy out in a pool hall once, but really its not worth it... getting in a fight is highly illegal. assault or even just disorderly conduct or drunk in public can be pretty serious. and result in thousands of dollars in fines even without a lawsuit.
