Best 2 out of three Sets
Many travel half way around the globe to play.
But just one set to 10 from this group can easily go wrong quickly for one player.
Here's an example of one situation.
Opponent starts off with a...
5 pack/safe/2 pack/hookem/2 pack hookem/opponent finally got a good kick, now only down 9-1 going to 10.

Races to 6 with a 15 minute breaks between sets Only for the Final 16.
Alternate beginning breaker each set.
Lag if tied 1-1.

I don't wish for your demise, but I do think when the day comes your tombstone needs to read as follows:

Here lies Island Drive
Professional pool matches should include sets. That is all.

I don't know if they need to do sets, but the way things are going with the break -- I tend to agree with you that the races are a little short. Although too short for the players and too short for the spectators are two different things.

I don't like the way the break is trending though. It does appear that all the players are starting to figure it out and the break, once again, is becoming too important. A lot of them are hitting it softer and softer too. Just something to keep an eye on.

Roda match was one of em.... Maybe make the final 16 alternate breaks?
Dbl elim. races to 11 seems allot more fair for all than an 8/910 format.

Race to ten against a top player, winner breaks can Be/and IS BRUTAL.... When on the receiving end.

with a better shot clock system in place they can have longer races from day 1 without the spectators suffering. now i just think it would mess up the schedule with szolnoki and morra producing 5 hour matches.

while they're at it, add a break speed gun.

Gambling matches should be winner breaks. Can take the momentum and either runaway with it or make one hell of a comeback.

Tournaments, especially majors, should be alternate breaks. Allows for the better technician to control the match. Makes the break and break knowledge extremely vital. Also really emphasizes shot selection and safeties.

Seems like we’re going to towards the qualification rounds and then single set elimination. At least it’s getting organized and there seems to be a consistent format, but race to ten with any players 780+ is a real crap shoot. Yes, the top players always seem to finish near the top but it feels coin flippy at the end.

Good points, but the dbl elim race to 11 winner breaks both sides had proven the test of time.
Sent many a player to the HOF.
Some of the greatest matches were come back wins, down 7 or more games.

Yet, lots of people will say that the break doesn't matter.

I have always advocated for winner breaks.

Yep, but not if races R shorter than 11.
Golf lets yah play two days straight before the cut.
Tennis gives the best 2 outta three games, Single Elim, then 3 outta 5 in the finals.
MR should consider doing Single Elim, best 2 outta 3, with 15 minute break between sets.
These breaks give audience time to get a drink, food, not miss the action use the facilities.
Taking care of the audience and the players is equally important.
Then the players could save a ton on costs if knocked out the first day.
Not everyone can afford weekend rates.
Events design is.............
For the hotel/occupancy guarantee I'd think.
