FINAL 6 Gladiators - Predications?

I don't know much about Nevel so sorry and I don't think Luat has a prayer in this group

Craig,

I can tell you from personal experience that Larry Nevel has one of the top 2 or 3 power breaks in pool (which apparently at this stage could be a HUGE advantage with less balls going in on the break)

He also has the most powerful stroke I have EVER seen and that includes Mike Massey (with his infamous power draw stroke)

Larry Nevel could win this thing...but right now, I pick Toastie :)

Before the tournament began I predicted Reyes, Manalo, Orcullo, Pagulayan, Lining, and Souquet.

I have to stick with my guns on this. Though Lining is out, I'm replacing him with Nevel. Larry seems to be a man on a mission.

Still predicting Pagulayan to win over Orcullo in the finals.

my picks

Hey craig, it's randy, how you doing, well, I hope.

My picks for the final six are.....

group 79. reyes and stalev

group 80.bustamante and souquet

group 90 manalo and toasti

I'm going with 3 philipino's and 3 europeans

I will also pick manalo and thorsten in the finals.

I know who i want to win it all, but wont say because i don't want to jinx him.

good luck to all of them, though. This has been a wonderful tournament and the outcome, regardles of who wins, has put pool on a higher level, and that is always a good thing.

1. Balls on the Break
2. Balls on the Break
3. Balls on the Break
4. Balls on the Break
5. Balls on the Break
6. Balls on the Break

My picks:

1. Reyes
2. Souquet
3. Matlock
4. Busta
5. Manalo
6. Hann

Souquet and Matlock are there for sentimental reasons. Not because they have big breaks. I think if they get the oppotunities they will capaitalize.

In late 90s in the finals of the winners bracket of US OPEN one pocket at Radisson Hotel in Kalamazoo, Michigan Larry Nevel beat Effren and sent him to loosers bracket. But Effren came back and beat Larry to win the title.

My final six will be:

1. T. Hohmann
2. F. Bustamante
3. R. Souquet
4. E. Reyes
5. Q. Hann
6. L. Nevel

Larry Nevel

Larry lives about 5 minutes from me. I grew up playing alot of pool with him. Were good friends. Infact I have spoke with him over the phone since the tournament has started. He has the best break in the world. He will get out when nobody is suppose to. He will place in the top 3. He's the man. He is so good it is only a matter of time until he wins one soon. Thanx Aaron 815-243-1101:D

I'm not picking. I'm predicting. And it's all on nothing but guesswork, and not how these guys normally play. We've all seen them play. And we can rank them however. But, this is a strange round robin, and there's the luck of the winning percentage thing.

Group 79 E. Stalev R. Luat

Stalev will confuse everyone as he normally does. Luat will squeak through on winning percentage, because Efren will get surprised by Appleton and Hann as well as Stalev.

Group 80 D. Matlock R. Souquet

I cannot for the life of me take Souquet off the list. IMO, he's the most dangerous player in the final groups. Dave Matlock will squeak by on percentages, because both Orcollo and Alcano will have Bustamante's number. Probably they know some inside jokes that'll keep him in stitches.

Group 81 M. Manalo R. Diks

Since nobody seems to be picking Rico, I'll put him in as a sleeper against giants. Manalo will rock everybody, and the rest will be too busy beating up on each other. I'm not sure why I can drop Hohmann off, but apparently, I am.

Fred <~~~ would be shocked if I'm 50%

I think winning percentage will play a part in who goes through, so I would pick Reyes, Bustamante and Manalo since they would each win any tiebreaker for the last spot in their group to move on and that's a big advantage.

Other 3, I'll go with Alex, Ralf and Luat. WTF, I'll take Orcollo over Ralf just so I can pick all filipinos.

It's funny. When I was at the Orlando IPT, I didn't think Efren was going to last, and it looked like he squeaking by. Then, suddenly, when the cash was close, he turned it up like... well, like Efren!!!

That being said, I like your choices.

Bustamante and Manalo simply over power 8-ball. Neither really finesses the patterns. They just make everything. I assume Alex is doing the same thing.

Souquet must play some tremendous patterns, considering how many 8-ball Euro titles he has, and the fact that he says he likes 8-ball the best.

I saw Appleton play nearly perfect 8-ball at the BCA Grand Masters. Have you seen both Hann and Appleton play American 8-ball? Which one is better?

Fred

I havent seen Hahn play 8 ball, just Snooker, but I know he won the UK world 8 ball, although appleton would certainly beat him at uk 8 ball over a long race. Snooker would be a no contest of course but hard to pick on these tables and these attacking RULES.

Appleton has had an amazing year though, he told me he had got to the final of the 4 uk 8 ball events this year, he also got to the FINAL of his first euro tour event, and followed it up with 5th in the next. He then lost won the BCA Grand Masters and lost in the final of the world uk 8 ball!

Good to hear from you Randy, hope to see you again next May if you do it all again! I'm hoping to buy my own table soon, those gabriels sure looked nice and its time to get serious lol! This IPT show looks tasty

Well almost 3 rounds complete, with 3 wins out of 3 it looks like Efren, Orculla, and Manalo are through given their high % also. Nevel, Busta and probably Diks also look to have no chance with zero wins yet.

Of course still possible the guys on 3 could lose last 2 and not make it but unlikely I would say.

yes and i think it's quite interesting how well the players who got in through qualifiers have done. I wish there were some spots in the next tournaments held out for those who do well in previous tournaments.

Matlock, for example, should have a spot in all the upcoming events based on his performance here. He should not have to qualify further.

Come on Kevin - do the right thing and let the players who have proven themselves already not have to do it again.

I mean, let's be real here, this format definitely eliminates the argument that someone just got lucky or an easy draw. After round one there are no easy draws.

Totally agree, one benifit though is that the guys who have won 30k have definately won their 2007 tour cards, so in effect they have won 130k! Reason for a shandy if ever I heard one ;)

Also I think the qualifiers who won 17k have a small chance to place in the top 100 if you look at the numbers and prize money in the remaining events. Bbut it would be sad if the guys who won 17k didn't make it through the next qualifiers and they missed out by a couple of g's!

Shoe In
Manalo
Orcollo
Reyes

Good Chance
Hohmann
Chamat
Souquet
Peach
Appleton
Luat

Small Chance
Pagulayan
Owen
Alcano
Matlock
Stalev
Nevel

No Chance!
Diks
Bustamante
Hann

Appleton v Luat, and Hohman v Chamat could be deciding games with all 4 on 2 wins. Alex still has the highest % to pull it out the bag if he wins his last two against Chamat and Owen but he would still need hohman to lose one of his last 2 games against Manalo and chamat. One things for sure there's going to be some 10k matches in the final round!

Well,

for all the supporters of Alex, he won his match against Diks, he has a slim shot at being the top two in his group.......the sun and stars have to align correctly for this to happen....he has to win his next two matches and Manalo has to beat Hohman for him to even have a chance, then it would go down to the %.....

but I'm still squeezing!!!! I feel like I'm gonna faint lol:o
