I was shooting at the local watering hole tonight, when my opponent went and sang a karoake song in the middle of the game. I unscrewed my stick, put on my jacket and walked out while he was singing. I hope he got the point :-)

Your in a "watering hole" on a friday night while Karoake was taking place and your upset that the other guy had some fun on a Friday night in a "watering hole".

Grab a drink and take a trip to the restroom. He will be right back. Heck kid him into buying a beer for making you listen to his singing.

Exactly.

Hey now, entering into a game of pool in a bar is a binding social contract- while there are acceptable reasons to quit in the middle of a game (like, say, a heart attack or severe intestinal distress), having your karaoke number come up just ain't one of 'em.;)

He had a different priority than yours. :D

A Karoake Move?

I've seen guys disappear for too long when they are getting beaten. The 45 minute "smoke break" or bathroom trip can be a move just to piss you off. It isn't fair or ethical but to some, it beats losing.

I have to agree with the thread starter. I've had the same experience. In the bar I used to shoot at there were 2 tables (one good one, one bad as is always the case) and a long list of guys waiting to play (pool was free). When someone wanted to sing Karoke you lost your spot in line, and if you were away from the table for longer than it took to get a drink or a piss you lost your spot in line. Go to sing Karoke during a game, and it's game over, next player, thanks for coming in tonight.

That being said, it's Friday night have a good time. No sense in breaking down your cue because someone else has different priorities... it's all part of barbox pool.

It is not a matter of his priorities, or what he likes better than another. It is just purely rude to start a game with someone and then walk away and make the other person wait. I was playing at a bar once (which I almost never play in), and it was of course winner stays. Well, a girl came up to play me, and anytime she was not shooting, she would go over on the dance floor and dance with friends. If I missed, I found myself waiting or having to go and get her to play her shot. After that, I would not play her in the same situation again. Just having fun is great, but you have to remember that what you do affects others.

If you want to play that bad that you are in a place with karaoke to begin with, then I would say relax and wait for him to come back.

If you want to play some hard core action, then find another place to play!

I am sorry he did that to, you, however you should have known it could happen since the singing was going on that night!

Sounds like you are in a true "bar." Not an action "bar," but a place to pick up women and get hammered. So, don't be so freaked out about people doing what they are there to do. Why don't you just jump in with her and her friends on the dance floor. Can you say "three ball?"

If you're looking for real pool, or action, go where it is. The Friday nighters are just that---Friday nighters.

Another solution is .... by damn it, make them sign a contract before their quarters go in the slot. Have one drawn up by your local clerk of court.

A local bar in Denver, pool room with about 25 tables on one side, bar with karaoke on the other side. I joined an in house nine ball league, and the owner placed a regular customer, a doctor / pediatrician, on our team and it was a disaster. He complained about everything, then we couldn't find him when it was his turn to play because he was on the other side on stage singing a Kansas song. He even took our quarters to play his match with. Afterwards, I told the team captain that it was either him or me, so we replaced him with a pool player.

watering hole

That's the difference between playing at a watering hole and a real pool room. You can just expect it. Most of these idiots think "pool" is something you swim in.

Sharking ploy!

You fell for the old karoake shark? Bet you won't fall for that one again!

There are no "pool halls" here. It's all bars. I feel it is not my duty to "relax". I think a person should make the choice to either play pool or to do whatever it is they came there for. Not both at the same time. One game of pool should not take an half an hour. It also isn't fair to the person who has quarters up for the next game.

I agree! There is no excuse for doing that, no matter what place you are in. I would politely ask him not to do it again if he wants to continue playing. If he did it again, I would give his shot to someone else. One of the reasons I stay out of bars is I do not want to have to deal with ignorant people like this.

It Makes A BIG Difference..... imo

It all depends, did he sing "Take This Job And Shove It" or "Mama, Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys" ?

Or did he sing "You Are The Wind Beneath My Wings" ?
