Finally made the jump to an LD shaft

Smart.

I can’t play with LD anything. I played too long with hi deflection cues. Was just too much to over come for me.

The guys these days play so much better than in the past I’m sure like in golf, tennis etc part is the equipment and what ever else.

Point is starting early with CF is the right time to start.

I have been wondering how much the LD cues have changed the game. Seems like it's not that things can be done with an LD cue that couldn't with a standard cue, it's that I can do them much easier. From what I understand the racquet revolution changed the game because players had enough power to keep their opponent pinned to the baseline instead charging the net. And golf, who cares? It's just a bunch of guys using a stick to roll a ball into a hole. That's not a real sport.

I recently got a new cue. Has a LD kielwood shaft. I'm really loving it and this is from someone who pretty much played with a rock hard maple shaft for 25 years off and on. There's nothing wrong with regular shafts, you can do some neat things with them once you get the feel. That said, I'm really loving the LD. Basically I can aim truer and stray from the center less and still get good action. There is a learning curve, I've not fully got onto masse type shots, but they are getting easier. It's pretty crazy just how much you use deflection on a regular shaft. Once you realize you don't have to do that anymore you can start threading some real needles.

I've used "floppy" ld shafts in the past and I'm not a fan at all. A stiff LD is a dream come true.

I was thinking about Kielwood, actually, I still am. I was looking at sending a cue off to have it fitted and then If I liked it, sending it back to get a spare. Basically, being able to walk out with the cue and shaft instead of going to the post office, paying for shipping, waiting, waiting some more, etc. sealed the deal.

Do you have any idea about how a Kielwood shaft shoots compared to the typical LD shaft? I want to try one now that I know I like the low deflection. Also, is it okay to break with a Kielwood shaft? I've heard breaking is severe for LD shafts. If I go to a bar and shoot pool bringing two cues can be a bit over the top. Actually, sometimes I bring a loaner but sometimes it feels like I take things too seriously for the venue if I bring more than $150 worth of cue.

As far as floppy shafts go, the 314 may have a little more flex than one of my standard cues, but not a lot. I'm under the impression that most of the LD comes from the end being lighter and any lack of stiffness may be a side effect of making the end lighter but doesn't contribute a lot to low deflection. My curveball isn't developed enough that I've noticed a difference.

I got a Diviney kielwood and I really like how it plays. I had a Hsunami shaft and while very good, it seemed a minuscule bit whippy for my taste. I sold it off and ended up with the Diviney, I'm not a new cue guy, but this one feels like it will satisfy me for the rest of my days.

Think I will stick with Maple, o am just a recreational player.

Think these LD Shafts give Eorld Class players the same edge.

A set of Custom Golf Club give Tiger Woods that we bit extra edge he need to be a we bit better.

I need a decoder ring!

Seems to me that a world class player could probably compensate for squirt but it lets average players use more spin. I'm sure it makes life easier for the pro but they are probably talented enough to get it done with a solid shaft.

i tried richard hsu kielwood shaft and really liked it
more feel than my revo but alittle more deflection so i stuck with the revo
richard was great to work with and i wouldnt hesitate to use his shafts if i got unhappy with my revo
they play like a mix of carbon (stiffness) and wood with less deflection than wood
i wood (pun intended) think you could break with them but i would ask the maker first

So the local place had a sale, buy a cue get half off an LD shaft. I picked up a Viking B2506 with the V-Pro shaft and added a Predator 314 shaft. Wow! I still feel like a shoot a bit more accurately with the stock shaft but with the 314 I can put spin on long shots without sacrificing accuracy. Any loss in accuracy is made up for by being able to play position much more effectively. With a traditional shaft, putting English on longer shots was significantly reducing my chances. It's honestly weird how little correction is needed. I do think the stock tip is a bit hard and a softer tip might give me a little more margin against miscues. Maybe I'll get used to it.

So, yes, the hype is real. I'm glad I made the leap. I at least had to find out what it was about. It's possible that I could get better at putting spin on the ball with a maple shaft, and switch back, but I had to know and that was worth the price of admission.
I have a number of modern Viking cues and honestly the standard V-pro is nothing to write home about. The V-Spin is not bad if you want something thinner, the Vikore is as good as most LD shafts (I've owned Joss, Predator 314, and Jacoby), and the Viking Inviktus is an outstanding shaft that nobody has heard of but easily my favorite.

Then again, I describe my pool game as right up there with the best local league players...as long as it's a bowling league.

When I returned to playing pool I used a couple of my old stand by pool cues which there's nothing wrong with them it was regaining my stroke and eye for the shots and confidence to make the shots required to be successful at pool once again .
I was given a chance to buy a Joss first a nice cue but it didn't fit my shooting style then I stumbled into a deal on a predator SP and really enjoy it .

Since then I purchased a BK2 break cue and enjoy it greatly .
However I also enjoy my Scott Erwin custom cue for me I switch things up to keep my mind in the game . My thoughts on this may not work for you but it does work for me .
The main thing is to do whatever it takes so you enjoy you're time playing !
