finish help - what to use

I do cue repairs done some refinish - sprayed automotive clear looked great - need to refinish a couple of cues a local cue maker had done and the finish is separating he used 2 part resin and clear type system , Im not set up to do spraying for a while what system are you guys using that works best for finish
 
If you do motor tune ups & someone wants you to REBUILD an engine, you have to know that you are not ready to do this. Same way here. You can only repair a REFINISH with a sprayed finish. Know when to say NO...

Tap. There is a lot of devil in the detail when finishing a cue!
 
Did u say u sprayed before and I came out great? why don u do that again?
and the best spray job depend on the PREP, anynumber of things can happen when spraying cue ,can u post pics of the problem cue?
 
I would agree that finish is a whole new learning curve to climb in this multi-faceted process lumped into the single term "cue making". And each finish technique has its own separate curve.
It sounds like you've climbed the automotive clearcoat curve.
However, one cardinal rule of cuemaking is "Don't experiment on a customer's cue." You may need to explain to your customer that you're not currently set up to finish cues and that as soon as you are you can take on his project.

I stripped the finish off a cue 3 times before I was happy enough to send it out. I know I'm not as experienced as the other makers here so here is my advice from maybe a closer perspective. Get some of hightowers cue cote and do a search for some ways to apply it. Or buy Chris' finishing video at the same time. The other route is ceramethane. I've used it also and its pretty forgiving to get a good finish. It just takes longer to get it done start to finish. The final option is get it ready for the spray and take it to a local body shop and have them spray it for you.

I took your advice :( - told customer wasn't ready and set up

I have refinished cues with automotive clear which came out really nice I was wanting to try a different method with no overspray don't have an exhaust fan installed yet

have plenty of shafts to recondition and tips to be installed

Go with CA seal coat then 2-part 20-minute Finish Cure by BSI for shafts.
 
wanting to try other methods is great , but if ure having great results with spraying id setup for spraying , all i use is Dupunt Chroma Clear , its worked out for me , also my mentor loves the way cues are finished , also look into PPG , :thumbup:
