Well everyone has kept telling me that I needed to start gambling a bit in order to calm my nerves for bigger tournaments. They told me by playing under pressure for money it trains the brain for playing in pressure situations at tournaments. (Or something to that affect.)
So a buddy of mine tells me to play this guy in our town cause he will gamble with anyone. He likes the competition, and he owns his own company so money isn't an issue. He will gamble small or big, doesn't matter. Also I have never seen this guy hustle anyone. He plays to win everytime. (I liked that idea too, cause I want to get prepared don't want to get hustled.)
So last week we talked about playing some, and I told him I need the pressure to get me past all the jitters for playing in a tournament. So he said this week would be a good week to start playing. He also said he would give me the 7 out! (Now I don't want to brag but I figured he would only give the 8!)
So last night he comes up and ask if I want to play, and I say of course! So he says how bout a race to 5 for $20. I said no problem, but that I couldn't stick around too long. So win or loose I need to get home. (He said he doesn't care about all that, and it is cool.) So he wins the flip and away we go!
I won that set 5 - 1! I made some really good runs and I was up on him 3 games before he got the 1.
I asked him if he wanted one more since that went so quick. He said one more and then he needed to get going too.
So I broke and ran out the 7 on the first rack. I broke and snapped off the 9 on the second rack! I won the 3rd rack. Then he won a game on me again. I won the last two and it looked like de ja vu with a 5 - 1 victory again.
The best part is how I won the very last game! He tried to combo the 6 into the 9, but the 9 popped out. It left me in a possition that I had to 3 rail kick the 6 in! I was on the hill so I took the chance and hit it perfect! Then I combo the 7 into the 9 for the win! The best part about that game is everyone was leaving so they stopped and watched to see if I could win that game. (That was a little pressure trying to go 3 rails with all your friends watching! LOL)
Anyway, I was really happy that I won both times. I don't think he will give me the 7 out next week. Maybe he will give me the 8 though. We will just have to wait and see, but I promised I would give him a shot at his money back next week. He loves to play so I know he will play every week that I want.
What I was surprised about is how calm I was shooting. The only pressure I felt was when I shot at the 6 on a 3 rail kick. The rest of the time I just put the money out of my mind, and played my game. That really surprised me, and I hope that I can start doing the same thing in tournaments. Just not think about anything but playing and having fun.
Anyway, I know all of you guys have probably had more experience at this stuff but I am still stoked that I played so well. I was a bit nervous because earlier that night in league I was playing horrible! LOL
