First game of one pocket

So I just started playing pool last June. I'm def addicted. Mainly just play 8 and 9 ball, but have started to practice some 14.1 and last night while I'm warming up for a local 9 ball tourney, a young guy asks to play. We do, we are pretty even speed when he asks, "have you ever played one pocket?" I tell him I've heard of it, watched a few matches on YouTube, but don't know all of the rules. He teaches me the basics and rolls me up two games in a row. I'm a very patient person but I shoot pool very aggressively, so after getting a 10-6 spot, I decide to play very conservative (aka normal one pocket strategy) and I won 6-1. Anyways I'm hooked and def need to learn some one pocket shots. It's a great game. Wish I started playing long ago.

After playing 10 years, picking up 1pocket was the best thing for me motivation-wise. It's a great game and cannot be mastered entirely, ever. A great challenge for anyone seeking to activate cerebral activity instead of constant rotation-game banging. Highly recommended to all players!

Keep practicing 14.1, and go to onepocket.org and start at thread page 1.
Home work, spend an hr a night looking at WWYD threads and reading into peoples responses to the situations presented .
play as much one pocket as you can possibly stand to play, preferably with a more experienced player... practice banks.
dont give up the occasionall 9 ball practice cause you will have to shoot at your hole once and a while.....and make it......or lose.....
watching videos on you tube teaches some things but never the reason behind most of the shot decisions....ball score ...ect.

best game....ever...

yesterday

buddy comes over we play 2 - 3 games of 8 ball to get warmed-up, then he says well are you ready to play pool. we then play 23 games of one pocket. its a great game

Thanks for the info, will definitely use it. I watched match yesterday where Scott frost and Corey duehl were commentating. It was fascinating to see how they disagreed on certain shots and their explanation behind it. Def need to practice my banks. I've always been pretty decent at banking but need to work on 2 rail and 3 rail banks
