First Problem With Pirate Shipping

the bigger your package or non standard it is costs them in some way or another more money to move it.
so pay up for that.

my plumber charges me 160 an hour. is he ripping me off. no, as i have other choices if i choose.

and a better (richer?) man than me.

Were you really saying that Fedex has you paying on average around $130 per package, and was that for cue shipping?
Large, heavy, custom bee hives I manufacture. Yes, between $100 - $160 per box depending on the area. 30% discount is applied for shippers who spend 10k - 20k a year on shipping Fed Ex.
West coast is the highest rates from where I ship. My discount only applies to the starting rate, not the 4-5 surcharges they tack on my boxes...

One of my biggest peeves about USPS is THEY provide the triangle boxes and then after you gotten used to using them, they have now added a surcharge on anything "over" 30 Inch long. SO....as long as the item being shipped will fit in a 29.5 long cut down round tube that slides inside a 29 and 15/16 long cut down triangle box, you can beat the system on that extra charge.
I remember reading on here that one guy's triangle box was 30 inch long and had a "discussion" with the PO where he was dropping off about their rules saying it was anything OVER 30 inches long. Just keep it under 30 and there shouldn't be a need for any discussion OR extra added surcharge.
;)
I've shipped a TON of cues USPS, and never paid the over length fee. I simply never checked the box that asked if the package had a dimension over 12" on the click and ship app, and only entered the weight and never had an issue. I keep waiting for the day they catch on, but it has not arrived yet.

They quit making these. You can only get them 24" long now.
Well isn't that a kick in the pants. Now we'll have to think "out of the box" and figure out how engineer 2-24's to make a thirty!
I is are a cuemakkbuilder so I are going to figure this problemo out!! :coffee::coffee::coffee:drink lots of this...do some of this :poop::poop::poop:

I've GOT it! 😅

I'd pay a plumber $250 an hour. I hate that job more than electrical work. And I only know enough about that to get shocked every time I touch a wire. 🤯

Plumbing = special tools, secret hand shakes, being a contortionist, 23 trips to the hardware store, inventing new bad words, more trips to the hardware store, more bad words. Getting on the internet and calling someone to come over to finish the job!

Those assholes tried to charge me a 'gravel road fee' one time 'cause the cuemaker's driveway was about 1/8mi of gravel. total f^&kery imo.
I can up that...I paid a Round Tube fee. They said it required special handling so it did not roll off the conveyor. Plus a $5.00 fee as the address was up some long road deep in the woods. I should have paid them extra...has been a while since I got Jerked Off😂
edit... I will not ship anything valuable through USPS.

Well this just tells you how inefficient our USPS can be — I know that every time I bring a pre labeled package to my Fed Ex location - they check it against my declarations. I stopped USPS for cues many years ago and happy that I did just that! I want a system that works for a profit - always better overall results- for me anyhow.

I've advocated for years to not send cues in round tubes. DON'T DO IT BUBBA!
Probably been more cues "lost" sent in round tubes than anything else.
Round tube....rolls off the conveyor....worker picks its up.....looks at the tag...worker plays or knows someone who plays pool...round tube is never seen again!
You'll get the Paul Harvey soon enough.

Call me a conspiracy theorist

Paul Harvey. Loved him.

There's plenty of horror stories with every single shipper out there. I am not really partial to any of them, nor am I adverse to any of them. You hand off the package and take your chances.

If you don’t put the tube in a box it’s an irregular. The tube can roll off conveyor belts and get hung up easy and takes extra handling. You also don’t want to ship it in the tube alone because it can easily fall off of a shelf in the delivery truck it’s much easier to get damaged in a tube alone. You didn’t select the right type of box/tube on the pirate ship site and ups caught it. The peak season fee is always there during Christmas season tons of temporary workers have to hired to get all of packages delivered.

It appears that UPS is no longer using USPS for delivery. I used UPS/PirateShip for the first time today and they sent me this email...

UPS® Ground Saver packages must ONLY be handed to UPS.
If a UPS package is dropped off at a post office or handed to a USPS letter carrier instead, the Postal Service will dispose of the package, and insurance won’t cover that 😱

It's possible that PirateShip did not have the holiday additional charge programmed. I really doubt that they were intentionally screwing with you. I suspect the problem is either miscommunication and/or with UPS.

Yeah, what do they mean by non-corrugated? Did you have plastic or metal ends on the tube? Maybe their actual complaint was that it was a round tube. Can you take an identical package into a real UPS location (not one of the Mom-and-Pop UPS stores) to get some info?
I found out the hard way, if you ship in a round tube they charge ALOT more because they say the tubes get caught in the conveyer belts, ship in a square box is cheaper, cost me an extra $26, only once.........

FedEx is the gold standard. Many businesses use them for that reason. They also give steep discounts to big corporations. I used to ship a huge rubbermaid tote filled with tools from Atlanta to Philadelphia for $6 and back, several times per year, (commercial office to commercial office) around the years 2010-2015.

For small business or consumers, the price is just too much higher than UPS or USPS to use, IMO. I'd prob only use FedEx as a consumer if I was shipping a high end custom cue.
This is exactly the opposite of my experience. I run away from FedEx. Their tracking is awful and never up to date and they don't take care of packages. I've had them damage/misplace THOUSANDS in bike components and full bikes. Fortunately the Fox/Reynolds/i9/etc packaging engineers are really good at their jobs...

UPS or USPS all day.

I think the bottom line in this thread is that you can run into problems with any shipper. If you have never had a problem, you've been lucky.

A footnote on the bottom line is don't ship in round tubes.

USPS remains the cheapest way to ship books because of media mail. USPS also seems to be the cheapest way to ship magazines as you can ship 20 pounds for about $14 with ground advantage cubic (which I did not know about until just now).
