The 2011 World Championship 3-Cushion in Lima Peru begins July 12 through July 16. Already announced is the absence of 2009 World Champion Filippos Kasidokostas who will not attend due to financial constraints.

The United States representative Pedro Piedrabuena will face what may be anyone's toughest challenge right in Round 1... having been included in the first seed group with current World Champion Dani Sanchez!

Here is an excerpt from a news item on the Kozoom carom site...

Michael Kang has been added to the field and will play in the group headed by Caudron.

And Fabian Oliveto gets the fearful honor of the substitute spot in Dick Jaspers' group. He is currently the highest-ranked Argentinian at 81st on the UMB list.

No Sayginer?

Sayginer has not been nominated by the Turkish Federation. His feud with them has been going on for at least five years. He has zero UMB ranking points, and has not played in a sanctioned tournament since the feud began.

Yes... i just read the news about Michael Kang at Kozoom...

It is great that we now have two players from the United States in the World Championship. But I have to wonder... by what process was Michael Kang selected? Was there some type of qualification system... or official list... that was in place to fill such vacancies? I did a very quick search but could not find any information.

Does anyone know?

The spots were opened up when the two European players dropped out. The UMB, pursuant to protocal, offered the spots to the CPB (Confederacion Panamericana de Billar), which, on July 1st, offered the spots to the affiliated associations (including the USBA) according to the order in which players finished at the CPB championship in May. Fabian Oliveto (Argentino), who finished 11th, decided to go. No player ranked after Oliveto chose to go until Michael Kang (26th).
