First time buyer - McDermott & Viking

My first real cue 30 some years ago was a McDermott, D series. I still have the original wrap and shafts and it still hits great.

I also have a Viking P6 that is a beauty and since I endorse Vikings, I heartily recommend them! I love the quick release and they customized a lot of other things. Customer service has always been very speedy and accommodating.

I have found that cuestore.ca has the best Canadian prices on the net and it saves you the hidden customs cost when shipping across the border.

Personally I have a Viking they are good cues and if you want a 3/8 10 joint they will chane it for you for minimal cost.

If you can't find someoneto do your cue repairs in Toronto, Billiards plus in Windsor does my repairs and does a good job (519) 739-1822 or billiardsplusonline.com

cuestore.com for the states. I've brought a couple cue's off him and always had fast shipping, usually from aurora road billiards in florida.

Falcon may be based in the GTA... but they've moved production to china recently...

Toshiba is based in Japan. Their TV's come from China. I wasn't implying they made them in Toronto.

99% of the time. And I've bought a whole lot of them...lol

It's just important to note that if you're buying new, you go to a reputable store. Ozone. Seyberts. Pool Dawg. And I've had nothing but great experiences with Billiards911 (formerly Beads and Billiards) on every single item purchased from them.

Of course, when it comes to customs, these guys aren't much help...lol
Luckily, this is a question of a new McDermott vs. a new Viking.

Platinum Billiards is a good place to buy for Canadians. Bought a few cues from them and they always come in perfect shape. Tell them to send it US post this way you will avoid brokerage fee scam from Fedex and UPS. Platinum does not charge shipping on orders.
So, you will only pay 6% GST. Canada Post could charge you 8$. Every time you pay in US currency the credit card company makes 4$ per each 100$ spent. They rip you off that way on currency exchange.

Wonder what the IMF is waiting for to announce their launching of a new global currency...lol :D :p

Thanks for the info. (I am from Canada :)

But why not order cues directly from McDermott if you are buying them?

Some manufactures will sell at retail prices only. We are shopping for wholesale at 20% off that.:) Not sure about McDermott.

did they. i'm pretty sure they're just chinese owned. they just make their cues in canada. i am pretty sure of this as predator butts are made by falcon in canada. the only thing predator makes are their shafts and the p2 series. other than that falcon makes their cues for them.

as for places in gta to buy, askacue is kinda cheap but their office is hard to locate as it doesnt have a sign and is in a business plaza. it took me 20 minutes to find it lol. and u have to call them ahead of time tell them what u want etc. it's quite a hassle. u should just go to zimmy's billiards. it's close to askacue and it's probably the best billiards supply store in the gta.

I was in the same boat a few months ago. After a call to viking to ask some questions I went and bought the viking. There was no press 1 for english, the guy that answered the phone, answered all of my questions.
I didnt buy mine online. I found it at a local billiards store for 30% off of msrp which was about $40.00 less than the best internet price i could find.

Buddy just got an F87, it was around $200 delivered with a nice case.....I was impressed, had a classic simple look and a good feel....

I like Vikings, I have an F25 and their Break/Jump.....yeah, there are a ton of custom, better cues on the market, but I like them and have had good service, so I play them...

Good luck in your search....take your time, get whatcha want regardless of the brand....
