YEAH!!
As of 15 minutes ago; we have all systems GO! for the tourney on Friday, and Sat. But there are eggshells out there that if broken will prevent my appearance.
Maybe we can try that kick shot that I am being told I can not hit.

Stop your bet changing! YOu have to make it, not hit it!!;)

Skippy, that hurts, it really does:D

Thanks for the phone number Sir Sniff A Lot.

JoeyA, the reason I believe that there are so many southern florida tour stops is because the Seminole Indian Tribe is backing most of the tour. The word I got was that the room owners are putting up only a portion of the added money and that the rest is coming from the Seminole Tribe. Catering to the Tribe's needs for putting up so much $$$ for the tour includes locating the events closer to the Tribe's home base.

The Seminole Tribe has added $85K this year. But it has nothing to do with where the events are played, that is DiToros own little gig. He doesn't like to travel much and he won't have tournaments in the summer because he thinks it's "too hot". (if they wanted the events around their base then more would be central because the Tampa area is their money base now.)

As far as him having an event in the panhandle I believe Christ will reappear before that time comes.

just my thoughts from facts I know :)

Thanks for the heads up on the Florida Pro Tour.

May the Great Spirit bless the Seminole Indian tribe.

They have been staunch supporters of pool (even if it is mostly in Florida) and I wish them much success in all of their endeavors.

I remember one tournament that was held in Biloxi by Steve Mizerak and it was sponsored by the Seminole Indian Tribe so it isn't out of reason to see it happen in Pensacola. Shoot if some of the neighboring state's players get a whiff of some of the prize money being given at these tournaments it could bring him new players for the tour as well as additional monies.

JoeyA (keeping his fingers crossed)

Entry is $150 and first is usually $4k, it's the best deal around for a two-day tournament. In fact it may be the best deal in the country, but yet people still complain.

I would have to say that statement is way off. The Florida tour for the last three yrs has not had tournaments in the summer based on several factors. Summer, some people actually do things with their family's...yes even pool players which proved correct in entries. Second, in the recent past hurricanes have threatened to or canceled some events leaving the room owners stranded and scrabbling for alternative dates. Lastly, I know John 25 yrs and he has never had ANY problem traveling.

Do any of you have a list or know where we can see the 64 players signed up and paid already?

Hey Tony!
Nice to see you posting again. Congratulations on some nice recent pool playing.

How about bringing AZ back one of those Florida Pro tour wins?

BTW, we are having a NICE local tournament at Buffalo Billiards )in Metairie, LA) THIS weekend in New Orleans. It is a one day tournament but should be packed with players from the GulfCoast area (Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and the Northwestern part of Florida). It starts at 3:00 pm Saturday so get your rest if you decide to come. :D :D

FTR, I forget to check your web site and your posting here on AZ reminds me that you update your web site with lots of current tournament information goings on.

I also like the idea that you put your URL address in at the end of your post. That in my opinion is good usenet etiquette and makes good sense.

See you around, Tony.

The guy who had you stuck 7-2 in a race to 9 at Starcade Billiards in Florida is looking to return the favor. Oh yeah, in case the AZers don't know what I'm talking about, you actually won that match against a famous U.S. Open 9 Ball Champion. :p :p :D :D ---Who knows after this he might even show up this weekend and you're always welcome.

Thanks,

JoeyA

You can call Aurora Rd. Billiard Supply for a partial list, 800-940-2837. Other than that I think John is the only one that has a list but it isn't online anywhere. The tour info should be on a website somewhere but Tony Crosby is the only one that tries to keep track and updates the tournament results.

Pool's best shoot for Melbourne title

Pool's best shoot for Melbourne title

BY HILLARD GROSSMAN - FLORIDA TODAY

MELBOURNE - They carry $3,000 cue sticks, yet "load 'em up" with a 30-cent block of chalk.

It's just one of the many fascinations with professional billiards, and why its popularity still ranks high for viewers and participants.

Saturday and Sunday, some of the biggest names in the game will be competing in the 20th Space Coast Pro Open 10-Ball Tournament at Players Billiard Club on Aurora Road. The $8,000-added event is the first stop on the Florida Pro Tour.

"I guess there's always been that stigma of dark and smoky pool rooms," said co-tournament organizer Pete Pouliot. "Well, we still have dark pool halls and it's still smoky, but there are more families coming in. I mean, now there are grandmothers bringing in their grandkids to play."

The grandkids can sit back and take some lessons from superstars such as Earl Strickland, a former world champion and winner of more than 100 titles who last year was inducted into the Billiard Congress of America Hall of Fame. Joining him will be U.S. Open champion Tommy Kennedy, Hall of Famer Nick Varner, world champion Rodney Morris and last year's winner, former U.S. Open champion B.J. Ussery.

Also in the 90-player field will be recently crowned U.S. Amateur champion Mike Dechaine of Winslow, Maine; "The Prince of Pool," Corey Deuel, who last month won the Gabriels Open in his hometown of Valley Forge, Pa., and the only woman in the field, "The Florida Flash," Ellen Van Buren, a former women's state champion who actually began her career at the Golden Cue in Melbourne.

Among the local pros: Mel Rowe, Pete Ohman, Dave Favor and Rick Croney.
The 10-ball event is played similar to the more common 9-ball game.

"But just that one extra ball opens up, maybe, thousands of different variables," Pouliot said. "We have a saying in our sport that, 'On any given day, balls roll funny for everybody.' That's why there are no favorites."

Friday night at 8 p.m., local players are invited to play with the pros in the 9-ball "Mini" Pro-Am tournaments.

To register, call 254-0732.

What is 10-Ball?
  • Racked like a 9-ball game, except the 10-ball is in the middle.
  • Object is to sink balls, in order, 1-10, no "calls" necessary.
  • Texas Express Rules allow for "other" balls sunk to stay pocketed.
  • First player to win nine games wins the match and advances.
  • Information
  • To register: For the main draw ($150) or Friday's "Mini" Pro-Am ($20), call 254-0732.
  • Where: Players Billiard Club, 1935 Aurora Road, Melbourne, west of Eau Gallie High football field
  • Spectator fees: Saturday and Sunday (action begins at 1 p.m.): $6 a day, $11 for both days

All in all it was a good article and great coverage for the tournament. 20th anniversary I'm not so sure and didn't they already have a first stop at Capones?
At any rate I'll be there Friday night and Sunday.

John called me last night and said the first tournament is not limited to 64 players, but the rest of the schedule will be.

:D

Murphy can take his LAW and stick it up his A..!!!!!!

I was cleared to play on friday, and then the soon to be X changed her mind and I get to have my son that night because it suits her schedule better. At least I will be able to go watch some action on Saturday night (I HOPE).

That sucks, but kudos to you for not letting the feelings for the X impact the way your chld is treated!
