Just got a call from a buddy at Spring hill who is watching the first Florida Tour 10ball tournament.

They are down to four players.
Dave Grossman and Charlie Williams are on the winners side
Earl Strickland and Neil Fujiwara are in the losers bracket.

Just got another call...
Earl beat Fujiwara and awaits the loser of grossman and Charlie williams.

Charlie Williams is up 6-4 against Grossman racing to I think 8.

Thanks! Keep them coming.

Hi, Joey. I think, subject to check, that this tournament has concluded. The story is on AzBilliards Main page. Charlie Williams won the whole shebang. Lots of tough contenders at this event, to include Earl Strickland, Mike Sigel, Tony Crosby, Rob Saez, Thorsten Hohmann, et cetera.

It looks like Florida is on top of the list as far as being the State which is home for the sport's toughest contenders these days.:p

Capone's is an awesome room, they have a $750 added WEEKLY Monday night tournament. That area pulls in some of the best players and the equipment is flawless, the 2 diamond tables play very tough.

Nice to see you back. Hopefully it's more then a 1 time thing.

Hi Jennie,

It's great seeing you post here on AZ. Hope you continue. thanks for the heads up on the Florida tour results. Is there a particular thread ANYWHERE where you elaborated in detail on Keith's magnificent tournament results? Glad to see the old boy still has it in him.

Keith reminds me of Joe Cocker and you, the love he sings about it in "She believes in me".

Warm Regards,

JoeyA

And right back atcha, JoeyA! :) You know, when Katrina was happening, I was very worried about you when you were not posting and was RELIEVED to hear that you made it through the storm. I cannot tell you how many pages I have banged out here in D.C. relating to this horrible tragedy, but I am continually amazed at the spirit of the folks who survived. Is that pool room in your area, next door to the court reporting school, still intact?

Keith did enjoy a couple great wins at the Joss/Turning Stone event. :)

I was up at the local pool room last night and saw a bunch of locals that went to Spring Hill this past weekend. They were telling me the scoop on how the tournament went down. Apparently the top players were nearly all in the same bracket. Rodney Morris for example had the tough draw of Thorsten first round and I was told that Thorsten put a four pack on Rodney. Brutal.

One of the gals told me that Sigel stood behind here (she was sitting front row) and was talking a mile a minute the whole time. This gal didnt even know who Sigel was (she's young..give her some slack for being a bit ignorant lol) and she was getting really annoyed with how much Sigel was chattering away. "I'd shoot this next shot like this...Oh he played that shot wrong...blah blah blah". She also said that Sigel had his own cheerleading squad and during his matches they were shouting "Go MIKE!" Sigel was yelling back to them too. She also told me it was sharking the hell out of alot of the matches that were going on adjacent to his table as well as his opponent.

Sylver Ochoa was in a good spot and so was James Laderia as both players were in fairly easy brackets. Both players didnt play well though and were beat, although Sylver apparently kicked it into high gear in the losers bracket and ended up cashing. The young Texas gun stayed around Miami and yesterday he massacred a local Miami player in one pocket for three large bags of sand.

Some action was at the the Tour stop in Spring Hill. Kevin Bennet matched up with Jesse Padilla and KB lost two 10 aheads to the Mexican newcomer.

UWATE - great reporting job; thanks for the info. Just when you think the Florida Tour can't get any tougher, it gets a LOT tougher...shortstops need not apply it would seem. I think you meant Keith Bennett instead of Kevin Bennett; Jesse talked to me about that matchup and has great respect for Keith's game. I don't know if I should talk about this on open forum, but...did you hear anything about Jesse matching up with Rodney Morris in the future, getting the 7 from Rodney? Heard that from a couple of people but don't know if it's hot air or real. As much as I like Jesse's game, I have a tough time betting against any of the champions...they always seem to bring it when they have to, and never wilt under the pressure. Plus I've seen and heard of matches where a player got the 7 or 8 from someone when they should have been playing even, and the wild ball never made a difference. Will Bilbrey sneaked up on Steve Knight, got the wild 7 and lost! I may be going to Jacksonville today with Jesse and another guy...if so, wish us luck, we'll need it.

LOL yeah I meant Keith Bennett. I have a friend from college named Kevin Bennet and my brain was still caffeine deprived this morning.

No I didnt hear anything more about Rodney and Jesse. Good luck in Jacksonsville. I always liked the action in Jacksonville. They gamble in that town from what I remember. I use to live there in the early 90s and Harley's room still ranks as one of the top rooms I ever played in.

I remember in 1994 I was at Shooters in Orange Park (right down the street from David Howard's place) and I walk in for their weekly tournament and the place is packed with everyone watching and betting on this nineball match on the front 8 ft table. A local everyone called Tugboat was playing a stranger and the locals were betting it up. The stranger was Jayme Goodwin and wow, was he matched up good in this situation. He probably could have given Tugboat the 7 and they were playing even. At least 500 was on the rail betting every game and Jayme looked like a pig in shit he was so happy. He kept saying to his partner...Man I LIKE THIS TOWN. I never said a word and just watched the action go down. This was just straight up road action in a good spot with the locals betting heavy on their horse, so I wasnt about to queer any action just because I was in the know.
