i agree. however, when i was there, i brought my girlfriend. and she wanted to see all the big hotels and walk through them. it made me realize that the smaller size of the riv is actually not a bad thing as i found myself walking for what seemed to be miles in the bigger hotels just to go to the bathroom, get a drink, find a certain restaurant, etc...
you can get some closer looks of the inside of the riv in the movie "casino", at least the casino floor at minimum.

The Italian Ice Cream is the Bomb
The Riv is one of the older hotels on the strip. Of course the newer hotels are much nicer!!! I stay at the Riv only because of the pool events. Its not bad. 1-10, probably a 5 or 6.
Check out the Italian Ice Cream at the food court. Little known secret of the Riv.

Whatever you do, don't walk across the street to slots o fun and have one of those hotdogs. It's tempting cuz it's like 12 lbs of food for 50 cents (exaggerating), but it'll stay with you long after you return home! :yikes: lol
The Riv isn't bad, and it beats commuting back and forth if you're in the tourney (which I'm assuming you are). Heck, Circus Circus, is just across the street, and it could take you a half an hour to get from your room to the tourney area at the Riv...(never doing that again!)

I think you're going to get a mixed review no matter which group you ask. Truth be told, the Riviera is a Las Vegas Hotel & Casino that can only be compared to other casinos. That is to say, it's a much nicer experience than ANY hotel in New York City (I love NY but that's the truth). However, compare it to what Las Vegas has to offer and it's okay, definitely not great.
Bear in mind though, part of the experience is being in and around the tournaments. Staying at the Riviera provides immediate access. There's nothing like waking up and being an elevator ride away from your match or being an elevator ride away from a toilet. You're guaranteed to spend most of your time there so why not stay there? Obviously, the opposite can be said, you're going to spend so much time there, it's nice to stay somewhere else.
There are no rats but no mints on your pillow, either. It gets the job done and you're in the middle of everything so you can visit the other casinos in minutes.

Since I live in AZ I drive to Vegas it is nice having a vehicle there.
That said I am staying in a 4 star time share suite for $50 a night. I can drive from the suite make it to the RIV, park the car and walk 3 minutes to my Match total travel time 15 min.
Last year i stayed at the RIV the beds were uncomfortable. The shower had that either too hot or too cold setting "never just right". and it was a 15 min walk from my room to the tables. The food court is another 10 minute walk from the tournament floor. I needed new shoes when i got home.

Yeah but that goes for half the casino bars in vegas. At least youll have someone to cheer you up after the tourney :thumbup:
the riv is definitely a 2 or 3, with IP/Circus circus/Downtown a 1 or 0.
If you are going with a lady, then stay at one of the boutique strip hotels (b, caesars, ven/pala, wynn)...TRUST me. you will very much enjoy the room and gambling floor/amenities at those places when not playing pool AND when playing pool you wont get calls from the girl, she'll be shopping at all the places that are built into the above hotels.

lol I highly doubt there will a be a girl going with me ( least one I give a flip about ) but thanks anyway for the "just in case" :thumbup:
The Riv would not be my first choice of quarters.
I've stayed there a half dozen times. Like others said....its easy to get to your match. Don't think its horrid...its not. Just old school original Vegas. Beats the hell out of staying in the trailers behind the Imperial Palace.
When you get there....walk out the front door & turn left. Walk up that side of the street a couple 2 or 3 blocks...past the sub shop. On the left is a small seafood joint....should be a man on the poster out front holding a 3ft long lobster...go into that place & order the lobster on the poster. I did.:thumbup: Was there by myself for the BCA trade show one year and decided to give the giant lobster a go. WOW!!!:thumbup: Two beers and about 60lbs of lobster later....I managed to eat it all. My jaw was tired from chewing. It was yummy...I LOVE lobster...but the giant ones are a bit tougher than the little ones. Total due: 2 beers & 1 lobster.....$210. :grin: Of course that was several years ago...I'm sure it cost more now. Great experience...I'd do it again in a minute. I wish they still had the big ship fight in front of Treasure Island. Just thought I'd share a bit.

haha sounds like some fun. I'm sure as heck not spending that much moolah on one dinner but that's just me. Guess we all have our ways of celebrating.
