For Granted Lesson

Just thought i would pass these diagrams along. i felt like i made an excellent shot on the 2-Ball to get position on the 3-Ball. a little low left, spun it around off the rails, into the 6-Ball, for position on the 2-Ball.

however, the second diagram shows an oh so typical screwup on my part. i guess there is a lesson here about taking nothing for granted. i was worried about having the right speed when i shot the 7-Ball into the side pocket, worried about getting ideal shape on the 8-Ball. so i took my eye off of the 7-Ball just enough where i overcut the 7-Ball into the cushion, and missed the shot.

the first thing i realized when i missed the shot was that i didnt go through my routine, just bent over the shot on the 7-Ball, was worried about having the right speed, didnt concentrate and focus on the 7-Ball. and wala, shot failure.

just wondering if you posters would have played the shots differently? especially on the 7-Ball. i just tried to slow roll the 7-Ball in, and let it drift up for position on the 8-Ball. thought about going up and down the table, but i didnt think i needed to play the shot that way. perhaps i was in error?

Nice shot on the 2... You still got the 7 ball whenever you want it, but you gotta BET SOMETHING!! :D :D :D

I'm confused... I thought, according to you, we were supposed to be looking at the cue ball last... what would it matter if you took your "eye off of the 7-ball"?

perhaps you've hit the nail on the head here! as i've said before, i am still experimenting with looking at the OB last. i believe i was looking at the OB last here, so perhaps thats why i missed?

either way, this simple shot should not have been missed - but i did. as i recall, i shot it too quick, and didnt go through my setup, delivery, preshot routine, SPF, etc, and choked it.

afterwards i even thought about what Russ said. i asked myself if i would have been so nonchalant with the shot on the 7-Ball if $50 would have been riding on that rack.

Perhaps why you missed is that you ARE supposed to be looking at the object ball last, but as you said you "took your eye off the 7-ball".

perhaps so, who knows, it all happened so fast it was almost a blur. either way, it was uncalled for.

ZOMG! He responded to me for once! (Kinda..)

I think I might pass out from the shock of it all.

Thank you!! Thank you, to all my adoring fans who made this possible! Without you all, I would not have this great accomplishment!!

(I'll be here all week, IMO..)

Others can offer options, but they might not be the best ones for you. You should find out for yourself what works best.

Set the shot up using paper reinforcements so that you can quickly recreate the shot. Think about all the possible ways you could shoot the shot and try them. Which was easiest? Why?

You can apply this to every shot you want to practice.

For you it is always the same thing. you need to start getting better position. Sure you should have made the seven ball but you could have left whitey in a lot of better places to leave yourself simple shots. Same with diagram one, asumming it was not left off the break. You shouldn't be leaving yourself shape like that on the two. Work on cueball control and the shots will take care of themselves.

Aint that the truth...

And fwiw, just because you left the three ok,shooting the two the way you did is wrong as well imo. There are a helluva lot of things that could happen on that shot that make the three dam near unplayable or even hitable.

You should have played for the oppisite corner bank on the three.I much higher percenatge shot then pushing the six gently out of the way after hitting two rails with bottom left.I'd bet that you would leave yourself with an unplayable 3 nine out the next ten trys with that same shot.Just because it worked doesn't mean it was the right play.

The seven ball means you should take up bowling imo.
