For OB-1 owners

I'm sure anyone who owns an OB-1 has been approached at least once about their ferrule. Some people might ask you what it is. Others might ask you why you don't keep it cleaner.

Sometimes you might have the time to sit there and explain everything you know to them. But most of the time you will just give them a quick stock response to get rid of them.

So I thought it would be fun to hear what you OB-1 owners tell people when they ask about your ferrule.

No one's ever asked me... I guess because OB-1 shafts are very common around the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas area.

Ob-1 Ferrules

What ferrule? Its just like all the other cues isn't it?

Thats my response since after you play with an OB-1 for awhile you don't notice the ferrule is different than any other cue.

There's a good one.

I see and OB-1 in my future. I have not thought of what to tell people, but I do expect a lot of people will inquire about the ferrule and the look of the shaft. I even thought when I do get the shaft, I would have a picture of the process of how the shaft is assembled. This is an interesting thread and curious what others have to say.

I tell them it is a wooden ferrule, and if they ask what it is for I tell them to shoot a few balls around. They don't ask many questions after that except where to buy an OB-1!

if you will post a photo of one , might answer a few questions ---before they are ask????

I had a girl want to know what kind of Shaft I had. HEhehe. Then she looked at the handle and said "oh a predator". So while she was still staring at the ferrule I explained it was a hybrid, sort of like a mule. Got pretty interesting there for a while. :D

True story, happened at a little bar in Vegas this year.

Let's extend this: what sort (re joint type) and make of butt have you combined with your OB-1 most successfully? In my case, so far I've tried it with both Szamboti and Black butts, and for no reason I can determine, had my best results with one of the Adams Balabushkas. GF

I got my OB's for a South West and they play great there. I recently started playing on a bar league team for fun and felt odd bringing out the SW in some of the places, not to mention getting "poled" several times in the corners and not wanting to chip the butt so I got a SW knockoff Kaiser from Coopdeville. Same pin so I use the OB's on it. Still play nice.

You let strangers try out your OB-1? Even the ball bangers?

I took it off. My eye keeps following the white thingy at the end of the tip instead of looking at the cue ball.

Really? I noticed it for about an hour, then never again.

I think that Oddball is trying to say that his response to people is that the normal ferrule bugs him so he took it off and changed it to a wood colored one. I don't think he's telling us that the wood ferrule bugs him.

Most of the people that I let try it aren't bangers! Besides, it can be replaced! Great thing about laminated, radial consistent shafts.
