Hello Anyone
A quick question on forearm wood length.
I have an opportunity for a quality piece to purchase but the only lengths available are 1.5x1.5x12.
Is 12" long enough for a forearm ?

Yes - if you put the tenon for the A-joint on the handle, or core the front.

If it is a stunning piece of wood, go for it. It is YOUR cue. Make it to the dimensions you like. My first Schuler had a 10.5" forearm. You can put the A joint wherever you feel appropriate.
 
You need to mention the particular type of wood so you can be guided to the correct procedure, as stated by Dale above.

Wood in question

The pice I am looking into is Brazilian Rosewood if one must know.
The only pieces left in the grade of wood I like is 12".

I am guessing that you are looking at the BR recently offered by a supplier that begins with "C". If so, you will need to let that piece dry for at least a couple more months if not a year - I got some from the same place.

Nice wood, but not ready to turn yet.

If not from "C" then the same applies to most others if they don't provide the moisture content.

I got quite a bit of Braz. Rosewood from "C" over the last year or so. All I received was 7% moisture content or less...ready to turn after a little rest on the premises here to acclimate.

Thanks for the info. Based on the "advisory" from "C" I assumed (I know ASS-U-ME!:smile:) that it is be wetter than we'd like.

I'll PM you about your meter, so as not to divert this thread.

I just went and checked a couple pieces of that BR. Both were so low (2%) I presumed they had seen a kiln at some point. I'll cut a butt sleeve off a longer one and make a test wafer to check.

Edit- Grrrr. Well, I would if I could find a long enough one. I know I have some here someplace....

It's been a long dry winter. They had to lose some water unless you have a 40-50% constant shop.
 
Joey- I guess it's been quite a few months, like 6 or 7, since I got this stuff; it probably did dry quite a bit, but, in fact, it's pretty humid here.

San Jose shows 33% today. Much worse here.
Are these from "CaptainWoods" ?
I got some from them.
 
Joey- I don't know that one. Are they in the Southeast?
