hi guys, i've got 40 cuetec excalibur cues to do tip jobs on. i normally use loctite super gel, but this is not bonding to these ferrules at all. i tried a five minute two part epoxy, let sit for an hour, tip popped off easily. i've talked with some other cue repair guys locally, they say that they have been changing the ferrules. cuetec hasn't responded to two emails asking for adhesive info. any help will be appreciated. thanks, brent

I've done cuetecs before and the loctite holds pretty well... not the gel type though... just have to be quick before the thing sets in

I have had similar problems,,,been using devcon 2 ton epoxy,,,leaving them overnight,,,
worked for me ,,,FWIW

As Hadj mentioned I too have been able to glue cue tecs successfully, only I just used the duro gel. Not sure if It was the same ferrule material as the ones your doing now though. I have had that problem with house cues before, but was mostly in part to the tenon rising over the face, pushing the middles of the tips up, and breaking the bond around the ferrule over time.

They must be clamped good while the glue is setting, and I like to tap the middle of the tip with a hammer right after the glue sets, to bond the middle of the tip well. It seems to help Me sometimes. Sometimes facing the tenon a little rougher, or slightly scratching the surface will help the glue bond better. Also I clean both surfaces well and let them dry before glueing them up.
The faces also need to match up perfect, becasue if not faced perfect, the tip is tidertopping on the face it can possibly cause problems as well. Good Luck with them. Greg

I used 454 Prism. I have glued Phenolic tips to cuetec and it stayed, but I used a pad.
I think you need to make sure your ferrule is really level.
I have had tips coming off on house cue or cheap cues with an uncapped ferrules due to the movement of the tenon. Most of the times, the tenon seemd to have shrinked. These are nightmare cues if you ask me... :)
I usually do not hit the tip with a hammer. I also do not squeeze the tip very hard. I put it on, clamp it, and let it sit overnight.
I keep my glue in the fridge.
I only apply the glue to one surface, not to both the tip and the ferrule.

I used to have a problem with tips popping off sometimes and I changed two things. I used to sand the back of the tips by placing them on a flat surface and sort of twisting them on the sand paper or with my disk sander. Now I face off the backs of the tips on the lathe. I do this to all but layered tips. I also started using a product called Insta-Set. They call it an accelerator but I just wipe down the back of the tips with it and let it dry, it dries in a few seconds and I apply the glue to the ferrule. I guess you can do it either way, ferrule or tip just put the glue on the other surface. It does something to treat the surface that make super glues work better. I can't remember the last time a tip came off including Phenolic tips. Some super glues like Hot Stuff have systems with glues and accelerators but I use Dura Super gel and they I don't believe offer anything like that. Insta-Set says on the bottle "For all CA glues" and I have been having good luck with it.

FINALLY GOT A REPLY FROM JS SALES(CUETEC). THIER RESPONSE: THEY HAVE SOLD THOUSANDS OF THOSE CUES AND HAVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THEM. I MUST BE DOING SOMETHING WRONG. BECAUSE THEY ARE MADE IN CHINA, THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT KIND OF ADHESIVE IS USED.
THIS IS THE RESPONSE I WAS TOLD I WOULD GET FROM THEM.REMEMBER THIS IF YOU EVER CONSIDER BUYING A CUETEC.

I don't think they are BSing you. If every tip was falling off the cues they could not even even sell them. I put on quite a few tips on cue-tec's and they stay on. Tell us exactly how you do your tips and maybe there is something that can be corrected or improved.

Mac, the first thing one should do after buying these imports is to get the tips replaced imo. They fall off all the time. Heck, the ferrules start ratteling after a few weeks on a lot of them. Yellow glue on unthreaded ferrules dun't hold up too well.
For $20 at cost, I don't expect a threaded melamine ferrule and epoxied tips on them anyways.
I think the easiest solution to the falling tips is after facing the ferrule off, make sure you rough up the face a little with rough sandpaper ( don't overdo it of course ).

I agree a lot of the imports have pretty funky ferrules but cuetec are a pretty big name in cues and if it was impossable to keep a tip on the cues they could not even sell them.

I replace tips for a local room here that uses the cuetec one piece house cues and never have had a problem with a tip coming off. I use the glue that tiger products sells! Actually since I switched to this glue I have never had a tip fall or pop off!
