Forfeits in DCC 9 ball

I won't name them, but a couple prominent players forfeited there first match in the DCC 9 ball tournament. What I ask here is, why would you ever stake a guy who won't even play in a tournament where his entry is already paid?

Does anyone else get what I am saying? Don't get me wrong, if he's stealing in a match I'll bet anyway. This is not the first time either has done this and in my consideration is reason to never "throw them a bone".

Please don't give me crap about the "throw them a bone" statement because we all know, at least one of them will take a "bite".

It happens for various reasons, when they forfeit out. I was being staked, played the first round of one pocket, and didn't buy back in. I played horrible, and the risk of having to win the next 3 matches, just to get any money back a all, goes up. The guy staking me, trust's me to take care of his money, and I do what I think is best for our bankroll.

Now, I'm not defending anyone else, or why they might do that. Could be, they have a money game lined up, that's much more promising. Or, could be a case of them just not wanting to work that hard to get to the money rounds. But I have seen top rated players forfeit out of a tourney, without a buyback to be paid, just beause they lost early and didn't want to wade thru all the loser's bracket matches. It's beyond me, I like the chance to play. Of course, I work for a living, so it's a little like a vacation for me.
